Behind the scenes…Thursdays
We never know when we will get calls to collect extra food surplus but the phone 📞 has been like a hotline the last few days. We’re definitely not complaining as we know it means we can offer our lovely members, and often the wider community, some fantastic food (and stop it from going to waste!)
It obviously means lots of extra work for the Volunteers to get the food collected, loaded, unloaded, sorted, pointed, stored and distributed but they always embrace the challenge and get excited about offering it to our shoppers 🛍️
🌅 It’s an early start but some of our members are often there waiting….Enjoying their time catching up with each other 🥰 (We love how the Larder brings people together and isn’t just about the food).
Our delivery team are busy packing, the cafe ☕️ is buzzing with friendly chatter and all the Volunteers are preparing for the session.
Today was super busy! And as a result we had to extend the session. However all the Volunteers happily stayed to make sure everyone got served ❤️
💰Admin completed to reconcile our weekly accounts 🤓
When the doors close, the work doesn’t stop. More crates loaded onto the vans, cardboard broken down and everything put away with the correct labelling ready for the next session. Vacuuming, defrosting, repairing, maintenance and cleaning 🧽underway. Another hour or two clocked up 🕰️
Short dated food? More collections tomorrow… decision made that we need to do a pop up 👍 More work for our volunteers but they would rather help out than let it go to waste 💪
Another 5️⃣0️⃣ hours clocked up today so running total 3️⃣7️⃣5️⃣ hours.
What would we do without such an amazing, selfless, dedicated VOLUNTEER team? 🥰
