💙 What support do we actually offer at The Dementia Care Hub?

We know that after a dementia diagnosis, many families are left asking:
👉 What happens now?
👉 Where do we go for help?
👉 How do we keep going?

That’s why we exist.
At the Dementia Care Hub, we support both people living with dementia and the people who care for them.

Across our Totton, Portchester and Waterside hubs, we offer:
☕ Weekly Social Groups

Friendly spaces to chat, meet others and feel less alone.

🌿 Wellbeing Activity Days
Meaningful activities, cognitive stimulation and social connection for people living with dementia - while carers get valuable time to themselves.

💬 Carers Support Groups
A safe place to ask questions, share experiences and talk honestly with others who understand.

📞 Welfare & Support Calls
Regular check-ins for carers who may be struggling, isolated or needing extra support.

🧭 Advice, signposting and practical support
Including help with referrals, forms, future planning and accessing financial support.

Everything we do is based around:
💙 Connection
💙 Dignity
💙 Identity
💙 Helping families feel supported through the changes dementia brings

💬 “There’s nothing wrong with me… I never get angry.”

We hear things like this more often than you might think.

For some people, a dementia diagnosis is accepted.

For others, it doesn’t feel real, or it feels too frightening to face.

And what can look like denial…
is often something much deeper:
💭 Fear
💭 Confusion
💭 A way of protecting themselves

This can be one of the hardest stages for families to navigate.
👉 How do you support someone who doesn’t see what you’re seeing?
👉 How do you have those conversations?
👉 How do you keep going when it feels so difficult?

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

At the Dementia Care Hub, we support carers through these early, uncertain stages - with understanding, practical advice, and a space to talk openly.

And importantly:
💙 You don’t need a diagnosis to come along.

If you - or someone you know - is experiencing:
🧠 Memory changes
💬 Personality changes
😔 Things that just don’t feel quite right

You are always welcome at our drop-in sessions.
No pressure. No expectations. Just support.

💙 Dementia is hard, getting support shouldn’t be.

📞 You can call us for a chat or simply come along. Every journey with dementia is different, but whatever you are experiencing, we have seen it before 💙

New to dementia? Feeling overwhelmed? You are not alone.
Our Online Carers Support Session is a safe, understanding space where carers can:
💙 Ask questions
💙 Share experiences
💙 Talk honestly about how things really feel
💙 Hear from others going through similar situations
💙 Be guided by our Admiral Nurse, Fiona Chaabane

You don’t need to be “at breaking point” to come along.
You don’t need to know all the right words.
And you absolutely don’t need to face this on your own.

Whether you’re right at the beginning of the journey or further along, you are very welcome.

Next meeting: Wednesday 17th June, 6pm-7:30pm

Not everyone who needs support will ever see this post.

We first met A + J the week they sold J’s car.

After nearly 60 years of driving, it was a huge moment.

A loss of independence. A shift in daily life.

With A’s physical health challenges, J’s dementia and no transport, things quickly became harder.

No family nearby.
No local friends.

And like many older couples - no email address, no social media.
The kind of people who need support the most…
are often the hardest to reach.

With support from Exxon Mobil Fawley, we’ve been able to:
🚕 Arrange a weekly taxi to our Waterside Drop-In
📄 Help with application forms
🧭 Make referrals for support at home

Now, they have somewhere to go.
People to talk to.
A connection to their community again.
They even did their first online shop last week!

For A + J, our hub has become a lifeline.
But there are so many more people just like them.
People quietly struggling behind closed doors.
People who don’t know support exists.
People who will never find us online.

💙 Dementia is hard, getting support shouldn’t be.

📢 Please help us reach them.
Ask your Hub Manager for posters to put up in any community spaces you go to

Talk to neighbours.
Mention us to someone you know.

Because sometimes, the right conversation at the right time can change everything 💙

🌿 Dementia Action Week may be over… but dementia doesn’t stop after one week.
And neither do we.
At the Dementia Care Hub, we are here all year round for families navigating dementia.
For the:
💬 Questions
😔 Hard days
😊 Moments of connection
🫂 Ongoing support
Because living with dementia is a journey, and support matters at every stage.
Whether someone has:
🧠 A recent diagnosis
💭 Memory concerns
🌿 Been caring quietly for years
They are always welcome here.
💙 Dementia is hard, getting support shouldn’t be.
📞 If you need support, please reach out - you do not have to wait for a campaign week to ask for help.

💙 Dementia Action Week may have gone… but the conversations shouldn’t stop.
Dementia Action Week was all about awareness, understanding and action.
And sometimes, action looks smaller, and more powerful, than people realise.
💬 Talking openly about dementia
📢 Sharing a local support group post
☕ Mentioning our hubs to a neighbour or friend
🫂 Checking in on someone who might be struggling
Because many families still don’t know support exists nearby.
Some people living with dementia, and their carers, are isolated, overwhelmed and trying to cope alone.
So we’d love to ask:
👉 What action did you take this Dementia Action Week?
Did you:
💙 Share one of our posts?
💙 Talk about dementia more openly?
💙 Tell someone about the hubs?
Every conversation helps reduce stigma and makes it easier for families to seek support earlier.
💙 Dementia is hard, getting support shouldn’t be.
