Eling and Testwood Donkey Derby Donkey Derby organised by the 4th Eling 5th Testwood Scouts to help raise funds for their groups

The official page for the 25th Annual Totton Donkey Derby which will take place on Saturday 21st May 2022. All money raised will help to fund Equipment and facilities at our HQ at Testwood Lake to provide water based activities and Scouting for young people and those with disabilities in our local area.

The wait is nearly over! Tomorrow at 12:00 PM, the gates fly open at Eling Recreation Ground for the Totton Donkey Derby.

To make sure you’re mission-ready for a day of sun, racing, and scouting fun, here is your ultimate "Day Before" checklist:

Advance Programme? ✅ Not to worry if you did not get a chance to grab one , you can still buy on the gate

Friendly Dog on Lead? ✅ (Optional, but we’d love to meet your furry friends!) 🐾

Sunscreen & Sun Hats? ✅

Empty Stomachs? ✅ (The cake tent and food stalls are ready for you).

Card or Cash? ✅ (We take both for tokens at the RED Gazebos! 5 tokens for £10).

The Kids? ✅ (Remember, under 12s are FREE when accompanied by an adult with a programme!).

With only a few days to go until the Totton Donkey Derby, we’ve put together a quick FAQ to help you plan your perfect day out! 🫏✨

When and where is the event?

The Derby takes place this Saturday, May 16th, at Eling Recreation Ground.

The gates open at 12:00 PM and the fun continues until 5:00 PM.

How much is entry?

Adult entry requires a programme, which is £2.00 if bought in advance or £3.00 at the gate on the day.

Children under 12 are FREE when accompanied by an adult with a programme.

Advance programmes also grant you access to the Fast-Track entrance to skip the queues!

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Friendly dogs on leads are more than welcome to join the fun.

How do the activities work?

We run a Token System for Scout-run activities like Archery, Climbing, Donkey Rides, and the Bounce Zones. *Additional exclusions apply

Tokens cost £2.50 each or 5 for £10 and can be purchased at the RED Gazebos.

We accept cash, card, and mobile payments (Apple/Google Pay) for tokens.

External traders and food vendors take their own payments directly.

What food is available?

There is a huge variety, including burgers, donuts, loaded fries, crepes, churros, and ice cream.

Is there medical support on site?

Yes, Astrix Waterside Medical will be stationed at the First Aid point to keep everyone safe.

Who does the event support?

All proceeds go directly to the 4th Eling Sea Scouts and 5th Testwood Scouts.

While we hope your day is nothing but smooth sailing (and fast racing!), your safety is our top priority. We are incredibly grateful to have Astrix Waterside Medical on site with us this Saturday!

They will be stationed at the First Aid point on the field, ready to help with anything from a small scrape to more serious medical needs.

🚑 Meet Our Medical Partners:
Astrix Waterside Medical provides expert event medical cover, ambulance transport, and first aid training. We are in very capable hands!

Location on Day: Look for the green First Aid cross on your event map.

Peace of Mind: They are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

5 DAYS TO GO! THE TRAINING IS GETTING INTENSE! 🫏💨

The countdown is officially on, and our athletes are "stable-ing" their nerves for the big day! We’ve seen them practicing their sprints—they’re definitely not "stalling" when it comes to speed. They’ve been working on their "core" (mostly by eating extra carrots) to make sure they don't get "colic-y" under pressure!

It’s going to be the "mane" event of the year!

📍 Race Day Intel (Don't "Hoof" it at the last minute!):
Date: Saturday, May 16th.

Time: Gates open at 12:00 PM sharp.

Location: Eling Recreation Ground.

Admission: Adults need a programme—grab one in advance for £2.00 to save money and use the Fast-Track entrance. (It's £3.00 at the gate!).

Younglings: Kids under 12 are FREE when accompanied by an adult.

Sorry, The Ballot Box is a No-Donkey Zone! 🗳️🫏

With elections often being the talk of the town, we wanted to clear something up before the Totton Donkey Derby kicks off. While donkeys are famous for being outside polling stations, our racers have been told they are strictly not allowed inside to cast a vote—apparently, "More Carrots for All" isn't a valid write-in candidate! 🥕

While they might not be heading to the polls, they are heading to the track at Eling Recreation Ground on Saturday, May 16th!

Here is the "Manifesto" for the Big Day:

The Polls Open Early: Gates open at 12:00 PM sharp—don't be late for the first race!

No ID Required for Pups: Friendly dogs on leads are welcome to join the crowd. 🐾

The Economy: Get 5 tokens for £10 at the RED Gazebos to use for Archery, Climbing, and Donkey Rides. *Restrictions Apply

Youth Vote: Jockeys aged 9 to 14 (under 8st/51kg) can register on the day for £5 to show off their racing skills!

🫏 Move Over, Pups—Donkeys are the New Best Friend (For One Day, Anyway!) 🐾

We know your four-legged companions are part of the family, so why leave them at home? At the Totton Donkey Derby, we welcome all friendly dogs on leads to join in the fun!

While our donkeys handle the racing, your pups can enjoy the sights, smells, and atmosphere of a great community day out. Just a few "house rules" to keep everyone—and every donkey—happy:

Leads are a must: Please keep your dogs on a lead at all times for everyone's safety.

Friendly faces only: Ensure your dog is comfortable in large, noisy crowds.

Respect the racers: Keep a polite distance from the track so our donkeys can stay focused on the finish line!
