I’d like to give a special mention to the Great Torrington Cavaliers, who kindly sponsored the fox carving.

The fox has become one of the most popular carvings on the trail and I’ve received countless positive comments about it.

The Cavaliers do so much for our town. From raising thousands of pounds for local charities, to organising the fantastic fireworks display, putting up the bunting for May Fair and supporting countless local events throughout the year.

Great Torrington would be a poorer place without volunteers who are willing to give up their time to make things happen, and the Cavaliers have been doing exactly that for generations.

Thank you for everything you do and for supporting the Tarka the Otter Comes to Town Adventure Trail.

Looking for somewhere cooler to explore this half term? 🌳☀️

The Tarka Comes To Town Adventure Trail takes you through the shade of our beautiful commons, along the old Rolle Canal river path and up towards the historic Waterloo Monument overlooking the Torridge valley.

Keep your eyes peeled for the owl carving near the monument too… I think he looks a bit like a barn owl 🦉

The trail is many with wooden animal carvings, beautiful views and hidden corners of Great Torrington many people never usually get to see.

With plenty of shaded paths beneath the trees, it’s a great way to stay a little cooler while exploring outdoors this summer.

What an amazing day ❤️

A huge thank you to everybody who came along today for the official launch of the Tarka Comes To Town Adventure Trail.

It was fantastic to see so many families exploring the town, visiting the commons and hunting for the wooden animal carvings together.

Thank you to the Mayor for officially opening the trail, all of our wonderful sponsors, local businesses, volunteers, the wood carver, the artist and everybody else who helped bring the project to life.

The whole aim behind the trail has always been to encourage more people to explore our beautiful town, support local businesses and discover parts of Great Torrington many people perhaps never knew were there.

Seeing families out enjoying themselves today made all the hard work worthwhile.

Hopefully this is just the beginning ❤️

Another busy day out on the commons installing carvings ready for the launch of Tarka Comes to Town this May Half Term 🦦🌿

Seeing the carvings finally going into place around the trail is starting to make it all feel real now.

Still plenty left to do this week but it’s exciting seeing it slowly come together.

A huge thank you to everyone helping behind the scenes and to the local businesses already getting involved with the project. Hopefully families from all over North Devon will soon be exploring Great Torrington and discovering parts of the town and commons they may never have visited before.

It’s easy to forget sometimes just how lucky we are to have this right on our doorstep 🌿

Part of the trail takes families through some of the most beautiful spots around Great Torrington with stunning views, woodland walks and hidden little corners many people haven’t explored in years.

The idea was never just to create a trail… it was to encourage people to slow down, explore more and fall back in love with the town again ❤️
