Discover the hidden histories of the Rame Peninsula with Heritage Open Days at Maker Heights: 11-20 September 2026 🌿

Join the Rame Conservation Trust for a series of free, in-person events exploring the unique military and cultural heritage of Maker Heights, a nationally important historic landscape which has been lovingly cared for, right here on the Rame peninsula.

🗓 Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 September 2026
🕙 All events FREE – pre-booking required for most tours
📍 Meet at: The Visitors Centre, Maker Heights, Torpoint, Cornwall, PL10 1LA

Saturday 12 September:
🔹 World War Two and Beyond
Explore the Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery, Command Post and Cold War observation post, with a rare chance to step inside the Command Post.

🔹 Views of History
Discover the history of the Maker Heights fortifications through the stories behind the views.

🔹 RCT Members Walk
A guided walk taking in the HAA Battery, Command Post and Cold War observation post. Suitable for those with good mobility.

Sunday 13 September:
🔹 A Hidden Gem of History
A walk to see inside the amazing time capsule of Maker Redoubt No. 5.

🔹 World War Two in the Air
Learn about a Second World War air battle fought above the waters of Plymouth Sound.

Also over the weekend of 19 -20 September (no pre-booking required):
🔸 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment of Foot Re-enactment Group – camped at Redoubt No. 2, bringing the site’s military past to life.

Come and experience 12 hectares of rare unimproved grassland, four scheduled ancient monuments and the Grade II* listed Barrack Block – all cared for by RCT as part of a protected historic landscape of outstanding significance.

Criminal Damage At Redoubt No 5 on or around Sunday July 26th!

We are sorry to report that vandals have broken into the Redoubt, forcing and damaging the heavy oak doors, spraying graffiti and removing all interior safety barriers installed to prevent access to dangerous parts of the structure. The damage to the door alone has been quoted at £1,000.
The police have been informed but we would encourage anyone who has any information or recognises this tag to also contact the police.
Redoubt 5 is a nationally important Scheduled Monument in the care of the RCT on behalf of the Mount Edgucmbe Estate.

Who cares about a rainy forecast? There's plenty still to do at Unite on the Hill this weekend!

Tomorrow's looking a little damp but there's loads of shelter and indoor activities to keep the wet weather blues at bay 😊

Hopefully things will brighten up over the weekend, but we've got enough sunshine to keep the party alive!
