Rhondda Shop Boarded Up In Major Crackdown On Illegal Vapes And To***co π
Another shop in The Valleys has been forced to close its doors as Rhondda Cynon Taf Council intensifies its war on illegal to***co and vapes.
My Pandy, located on Dunraven Street in Tonypandy, has been slapped with a Closure Order following a lengthy investigation into illicit trading and serious allegations of selling to children.
This latest shutdown marks the fifth business to be closed across the county borough in just over a week, demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach to rogue retailers.
Trading Standards officers received multiple complaints and intelligence reports about the Tonypandy premises. Despite being given repeated advice, warnings, and enforcement visits, the business blatantly continued to flout the law.
The investigation culminated in a joint raid on 4 September 2026, supported by South Wales Police and HMRC under Operation CeCe.
Officers uncovered a stash of illegal goods deliberately concealed within the shop to evade detection. The massive haul included 363 packs of ci******es, pouches of hand-rolling to***co, and 21 high-capacity disposable vapes.
The seized products, which breached regulations or were suspected of being counterfeit, had an estimated street value of more than Β£5,600.
During earlier test purchases, officers also noted that ci******es were being sold at heavily discounted prices well below the minimum duty rate.
Councillor Bob Harris, Cabinet Member for Communities, confirmed that My Pandy has now been successfully boarded up by the council. He stressed that illicit to***co undermines legitimate local businesses, funds wider criminal activity, and provides young people with easy access to harmful products.
Because there is currently no licensing scheme for the retail sale of to***co in Wales, authorities must rely on extensive evidence gathering and repeated test purchases to secure these strict Closure Orders through the courts.
The council is urging residents to continue reporting any suspicions of illegal trading to help protect local communities from harmful and illicit goods.
