Like driving? Enjoy meeting people? Community Transport Calderdale, a charity, is desperate for more volunteer drivers across the whole of Calderdale, but especially in the Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Brighouse areas. We provide transport for older and/or vulnerable people for a variety of reasons and to a variety of places.

You won't be out of pocket because your mileage is paid at the time you make the journey. You just let your insurance company know what you are doing and it doesn’t usually make any difference to your premiums. We have a letter you can send them if you wish.

You can do as many or as few hours as you wish, and whenever it is convenient to you.

This year we did something that felt a little brave… we stopped buying biscuits 😮
And yes — we definitely got a few “OMG!” looks too.

The thinking behind it was simple: as an organisation promoting health and wellbeing, we want to make it easier to choose nourishing options while still enjoying coming together socially. Of course, if you fancy a biscuit, absolutely go for it - we’re just trying not to make the biscuit tin the default.

So when we had a pop-up get-together after class at Roomfield House this week, Rebecca brought along a homemade banana, date and blackcurrant cake with no refined sugar.

She didn’t mention what was in it… and nobody noticed — except to say how lovely it tasted.

A lovely reminder that healthier choices can still feel like a treat… and yes, we can definitely have our cake and eat it too 🍰
