Good to see one of our local county councillors, Steve Lodge, speaking up about what is happening to library staff in Tiverton and beyond. We support our librarians, they work really hard to make our library a great place for our town.

More than 25,000 people responded when the future of Devon’s libraries went out to consultation — and staffed opening hours were ultimately protected. Now campaigners are sounding the alarm again. 📚⚠️
Libraries Unlimited has begun an internal staff consultation which could see the number of library supervisors reduced. Exactly how many posts could be affected is unclear, and the organisation says it would be inappropriate to comment further while the consultation is ongoing. It has confirmed staffed opening hours will be unaffected.
Ottery St Mary library campaigner Siân Smith says supervisors are key to their communities, managing volunteers and helping organise local projects. She described the latest development as “very disappointing” and said it “felt like getting stabbed in the back”.
Libraries Unlimited says the review does not involve Devon County Council. Campaigners are now trying to publicise their concerns and hope to launch a petition.
