The Lower Wye Valley Building Preservation Trust The Lower Wye Valley Building Preservation Trust is a charity that safeguards local historical and archaeological interest in Tintern.

We are working on the conservation of Fryer's Wharf, Tintern Parva and the ruin of St Mary's Church, Chapel Hill.

Last Saturday we did our first guided historical walking tour in collaboration with the Monmouthshire Antiquarian Association visiting the three St Mary’s in Tintern and nearby Penterry. We couldn’t enter the Chapel Hill ruin for safety reasons, but donations from the cream tea went towards the consolidation fund.

Hopefully we can repeat a variation of another Tintern tour in a future year and this St Mary’s will then be safe enough to go in!

An unplanned bonus at the abbey (the first and final St Mary’s) was a medieval music event.

What a day - sun, nature, cake, music, old and new friends and a pint to finish it off. 🤗 🎶 🍰 🍻

We went out on Saturday with Cambrian Archaeological Society, Monmouthshire Antiquarian Association and Forest of Dean walkers. A jolly day of history taking in the three St Mary's (Tintern Abbey, Penterry and Chapel Hill) which raised some more monies for our Save Chapel Hill Church (St Mary's, Tintern) Consolidation Fund.
