We’re delighted to see the Flow Country and the work happening here in the north featured in Nature 👇

The article explores what a “good day in science” looks like, and includes a powerful contribution from Roxane Andersen, Professor of Peatland Science and Senior Research Fellow at the Environmental Research Institute in Thurso.

Roxane shares her experience of running 114 km across the Flow Country on World Heritage Day 2025 - raising awareness of this globally important landscape and celebrating its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Home to around 400 million tonnes of carbon, the Flow Country plays a vital role in climate action. Her story also highlights the long-term work to restore peatlands, the importance of community collaboration, and the growing shared pride in this unique environment.

It’s fantastic to see the region gaining international recognition, and to celebrate the people and partnerships working to protect it 🌍💚

Following the positive feedback on the riverside path network improvements, Wick Development Trust are currently looking into the installation of additional lighting along the riverside to increase its use in the winter months for walkers, runners, commuters and other activities.

We need to demonstrate to funders that the improvements have the support of the local community. We would be grateful if you could take a couple minutes to complete the survey and register your support.
