Port of Leith Donates Lifesaving Equipment to International Fire and Rescue Association

Port of Leith has donated a number of no-longer-used lifebuoys to the International Fire and Rescue Association, supporting the charity’s work to improve safety, training and emergency response capabilities for fire and rescue services worldwide.

The International Fire and Rescue Association provides specialist training, equipment and resources to emergency responders, helping ensure lifesaving tools continue to protect people while promoting best practice and preparedness.

By rehoming surplus lifebuoys, the Port of Leith is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, responsible reuse and supporting the circular economy—while keeping valuable equipment in active use.

“We are very grateful for this donation from the Port of Leith. Although this equipment has been replaced here, it is still safe and usable, and it can still go on to save lives in other countries that do not have the resources we do. We are very happy to continue the partnership between IFRA and the Port of Leith which allows IFRA to assist Emergency Services in many countries abroad.” David Kay OBE, Director/Chair, International Fire and Rescue Association.

“This donation is a meaningful way to support the vital work of emergency responders,” said Julie Dominguez, Marine Officer, Port of Leith. “We’re committed to reducing waste, supporting sustainability and backing organisations that make a real difference locally.”
