Mine clearance offers families safe access to key services.

As well as saving lives and preventing devastating injuries, HALO’s work creates safe pathways to vital services at the heart of local community life.

With the deadly threat of mines and explosives removed, trade and business can function effectively, families can reach medical care facilities, and children can attend school safely.

From Colombia to Cambodia, Angola to Syria and beyond, we’ve cleared deadly explosives from schools and their surrounding areas, empowering the next generation to receive the education that every child deserves.

Every road, path or school we clear creates access and opportunity in the communities we serve and is vital to creating a safe environment for recovery from the legacy of conflict.

Thank you to our brilliant ambassador Rishini Weeraratne for hosting and to all who attended our events, highlighting the impact of our life-saving work in 🇱🇰 .

Having passed the milestone of 300,000 landmines cleared in Sri Lanka, HALO's work means families can return home, rebuild their lives and work their land safely.

As well as celebrating successes, the events also focused on the importance of continued support for this vital work, as a lot more is yet to be done before the country can finally be declared mine-free.

The Sri Lankan diaspora in London gathered on 2nd June for two special events in support of The HALO Trust, raising awareness of its mission to make Sri Lanka mine-impact free and support post-conflict recovery.

Hosted by Rishini Weeraratne, Ambassador for HALO and Editor of The Sun (Daily Mirror), Sri Lanka, the day featured a private breakfast at Hoppers, King’s Cross and an evening dinner at Kolamba East, bringing together business leaders, philanthropists, policymakers, and members of the Sri Lankan community in the UK.

Guests heard powerful insights from HALO representatives on the progress made since 2002, including the clearance of 302,000+ landmines, the release of 120+ sq km of safe land, and the resettlement of 285,000+ displaced people. With only 22 sq km remaining, Sri Lanka is closer than ever to becoming mine-impact free.

The events highlighted the importance of continued global support, with guests encouraged to contribute through philanthropy, advocacy, and awareness as HALO works toward completing its mission.

Dutch support helps reconstruction and recovery in 🇺🇦 .

In the early months of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian forces transformed the settlement of Novyi Bykiv in Chernihiv oblast into a logistical hub supporting their advance toward Kyiv, deploying military equipment throughout the village and laying mines in the surrounding areas.

More than four years after liberation, families in Novyi Bykiv continue to live with the deadly legacy of landmines and unexploded ordnance, preventing people from safely using their land and restoring livelihoods disrupted by the war.

Since we began survey work in the summer of 2022, The HALO Trust Ukraine has identified 17 hazardous areas in and around Novyi Bykiv.

Thanks to the support of 🇳🇱 Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, we’re continuing to clear deadly explosives, helping the local community reclaim its land, restore safe access to vital resources, and rebuild lives amid the ongoing conflict.

HALO Chair Lord Evans of Weardale today gave evidence to the Foreign Affairs Committee about the impact of the Integrated Security Fund (ISF) on the UK’s ability to prevent and intervene in global conflicts.

At a time of increasing conflict and declining aid budgets, the UK’s shift to a more domestically focused ISF has removed a key mechanism through which the UK previously helped prevent, mitigate, and support recovery from global conflict.

“Conflict is now one of the biggest drivers of extreme poverty across the world – it is in the interests both of those suffering in post-conflict environments and national security that the UK has an ability to intervene and prevent conflicts from developing,” Lord Evans told the hearing.

HALO recently welcomed the new Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. John Junior Tuhaika, to our 🇸🇧 offices for a briefing on our work and future strategy for making the country safe.

Heavy fighting during left Solomon Islands with unexploded bombs that still pose a threat to this day, many decades after the war ended.

HALO began work in Solomon Islands in June 2023 and thanks to generous support from the 🇺🇸 United States through the U.S. Embassy Honiara, we’ve surveyed over 42 million sq metres for explosives and have provided risk education for over 22,000 people, teaching families how to stay safe and avoid UXO.

Thank you to Minister Tuhaika and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Dan O’Hara for their support of HALO’s life-saving work.
