It’s the very last day to catch Anderson Borba’s exhibition The Unearthed here at Cample tomorrow - Sunday 31 May.

‘The Unearthed awakens our hidden nature, our dormant collective memory, our connection to the unbound. The entities assembled in the gallery space, seemingly gathered with a mysterious purpose, might as well have fled their sacred realm in order to confront humanity…’ Bernardo Jose de Souza

To mark the National Year of Reading 2026, our Spring 15 Reads selection is now on display at Thornhill Library 📚

Inspired by our current exhibition, Anderson Borba’s The Unearthed, this spring’s reads explore ideas of metamorphosis, memory, embodiment, recovered things, other ways of being, and the half-seen and half-spoken. Across fiction, poetry and storytelling, this selection continues our commitment to women’s voices, writing from marginalised communities, authors in translation, independent publishers, and world classics.

Swipe to slides 2&3 to listen to an excerpt from Greyling by Jane Yolen, one of our spring selections for younger readers, which we are delighted to have beautifully read by Jean - a Primary 6 pupil at Penpont Primary and a frequent visitor to Cample Line. We think she captures the atmosphere and wonder of the story so brilliantly - thank you Jean! 🙏

Our 15 Reads are selected and described by Dr Jane McArthur, a writer and arts producer based in Dumfries and Galloway.

All of our 2025 and 2026 15 Reads books are available to browse and borrow at Cample Line and through the Dumfries & Galloway Libraries network, meaning they can be requested and loaned from libraries across the region.

Explore collage, frottage and experimental drawing techniques in our upcoming workshop with Frank Hayes, developed alongside our current exhibition The Unearthed by Anderson Borba.

Taking inspiration from Borba’s use of texture, layering and repetition - including his large-scale frottage installation Veins (2020–2026) - the session will offer time and space to experiment with a range of drawing materials and processes in a relaxed and supportive setting.

No previous experience is required and all materials will be provided.

We’re honoured to be hosting the UK cinematic debut of Agatha's Almanac at Cample Line this May - a remarkable first feature by Canadian artist and filmmaker Amalie Atkins.

Filmed over six years, Agatha’s Almanac is a slow, observational portrait of the filmmaker's aunt, 90-year-old farmer Agatha Bock, who continues to live and work on her ancestral land through seasonal rituals of planting, harvesting and care.

Shot on 16mm by cinematographer Rhayne Vermette - whose extraordinary film Ste. Anne we screened at Cample in 2022 - the film shares that same richly textural, sensory and deeply attentive approach to filmmaking.

We’re excited to be encountering Amalie Atkins’ distinctive, durational filmmaking practice for the first time through this beautifully crafted and quietly powerful film about seasonal rhythms, inherited knowledge and ways of living closely with the land 🌱

Thanks to all who attended our most recent Meet & Make at the end of March 🌱

We gathered seasonal foliage from our green space before using leaves and ferns to create delicate prints on eggs dyed with red cabbage and onion skins. It was wonderful to see the variety of patterns emerging - each one slightly different, shaped by the plants and the process.

Afterwards we enjoyed delicious cheese and wild garlic scones, made with wild garlic picked from the banks of Cample Water just beyond the building.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a relaxed morning of making, conversation and time outdoors.

Opening today ☀️

Join us this afternoon for the opening of The Unearthed by Brazilian artist Anderson Borba.

Borba works primarily with found wood sourced locally to his studio in Barra Funda in São Paulo, alongside materials such as cardboard, textile, plaster, and found images from books, magazines and photography. These serve as starting points for processes of carving, hollowing, scorching, pressing, painting and gluing, resulting in heavily worked, enigmatic forms that seem ‘partly animal, partly plant, partly humanoid, partly extraterrestrial.’

Today, Sat 21 March, 1.30–4.30pm

All very welcome | Free entry | Wheelchair accessible | Refreshments available

Exhibition runs 21 March-31 May
Open Thurs-Sun, 11am-4pm
