Friends of Thorne Community Wood The Friends of Thorne Community Wood are a group of volunteers who help maintain and develop Thorne Community Wood.

Thorne Community Wood is an area of former agricultural land which was purchased by Thorne Moorends Town Council in 1993 to create a community woodland. The final stage of the main tree planting was completed in the winter of 2001 but the wood needs a as much, if not more, care at this stage of its life. The Friends continue to offer this through practical work and promotional activities. Thorne Moorends Town Council, with the help of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council Woodland Department and grant assistance from the Forestry Commission, have endeavoured to enhance the local recreational environment for residents and visitors alike. Thorne Community Wood was also recently awarded Nature Reserve status.
