📢 BIG NEWS FOR DUNSCROFT!

Recovery Games C.I.C is stepping into our Next Chapter alongside the incredible team at Addicted To Recovery 🎉

We are absolutely thrilled to share that The Recovery Games C.I.C. has been awarded a £30,000 Community Coordination Grant from Well Doncaster (City of Doncaster Council)! Funded through the Crisis and Resilience Fund, this grant will support our powerful partnership and ongoing work in the community right up until March 31st, 2027.

🔄 A Full Circle Moment

(A personal message from our founder, Neil Firbank)"For me, this project is deeply personal. Dunscroft is my home village—it is the place where I found addiction, but more importantly, where I found a way out. Over 20 years ago, driven by my early frustration with the lack of genuine peer connection in treatment, I set up my very first peer support group right here in the community. That was way before The Recovery Games were even a thought! To be able to bring this level of resource and hope back to the streets where my own journey began is a true, full-circle moment.

What makes it even more special is being able to share this with Addicted to Recovery—another incredible grassroots peer support organisation delivering powerful, lived-experience support across Doncaster and Sheffield."

🤝 A Shared Mission

(A message from Dale, CEO & Founder of Addicted To Recovery)

"I’m incredibly honoured and excited to bring the people of Dunscroft and the surrounding areas the support they deserve. Working alongside Recovery Games Founder Neil Firbank has always been a privilege — we share the same values, the same beliefs, and the same commitment to ensuring that recovery is accessible to everyone.

This partnership isn’t just a collaboration; it’s a strengthening of a shared mission to create real, lasting change in our communities."

🛠️ What We Are Funded To Do

We know that recovery thrives in community, not isolation. This funding empowers us to deliver a coordinated, peer-led model of support that tackles real, everyday challenges.

Here is exactly how we are putting this grant to work in Dunscroft: Improving Financial Resilience: We will be running targeted workshops on debt management, benefit maximisation, and financial literacy. We will also provide practical support and access to digital tools to help people increase their income and build sustainable financial stability.

Building Stronger Local Support Networks:

We are developing a peer-led model to empower individuals with lived experience to support others. By combining structured activity and skills development, we aim to reduce isolation and build a deeply connected community.

Real Resources on the Ground:

This grant directly funds sessional peer-leads, local facility hire in Dunscroft, accredited training, a physical wellness fund, physical activity gear, and specialist guest speakers. 🌟 Our Mission in ActionThis project perfectly aligns with our core vision: to see a world where the stigma of addiction is replaced by the strength of connection. We believe that every recovery journey is unique and that absolutely no one should have to suffer in silence.

With this grant and our amazing partners at Addicted to Recovery, we are making sure that recovery is joyful, visible, and shared. Recovery is happening. Let’s make it visible. 🌟💪 📧 Want to get involved or learn more? Reach out to us at [email protected]

🧠 Neurodivergence isn’t one “look,” one diagnosis, or one experience.

It’s a broad term that describes brains that work differently from what society considers “typical.” This can include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, OCD, Tourette’s, and more.

🧡 What many people don’t realise is how much overlap there can be.

Someone can:
🖐️ struggle to focus but hyperfocus for hours
🖐️ seem socially confident but feel exhausted internally
🖐️ be highly intelligent but struggle with daily tasks
🖐️ crave routine while also needing novelty
🖐️ appear “fine” while silently overwhelmed

Neurodivergence can affect:
🧠 attention and focus
🎧 sensory experiences
💬 communication
📋 executive functioning
💥 emotional regulation
🌍 how someone experiences the world overall

And it doesn’t always present in obvious ways.

🤷🏻‍♀️Some people are loud and impulsive.
🤷🏾Some are quiet and internal.
🤷🏼‍♂️Some mask so well that nobody notices how hard they’re working just to get through the day.

🥺 Many neurodivergent people spend years being misunderstood as:
“lazy”
“too sensitive”
“dramatic”
“shy”
“disorganised”
“not trying hard enough.”

In reality, many are navigating a world that wasn’t designed for the way their brain processes information.

‼️ There is no single neurodivergent experience. No universal “look.” No one-size-fits-all presentation.

🧠Just different brains, different needs, different strengths, and different challenges.

Understanding that can change the way we treat people — and ourselves.
