Last week not only delivered major commitments from government for improving outcomes for brain tumour patients, it also saw the awarding of six more Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence and the launch of The Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission's five-year review of NHS brain tumour care.

This is the largest review conducted into NHS brain tumour services and shows how real progress has been made since 2021, as well as highlighting the change that is still urgently needed.

We are very proud to be a partner with the Mission, bringing the voice and experience of patients and families, as well as insight from working closely with NHS neuro teams.

“A huge step change” ❤️

These are the words of Professor Anthony Chalmers who will be leading an expert review into what is holding back progress for brain tumour patients.

The review is one of several measures announced this week aiming to speed up the route from research to treatment.

Prof Chalmers is an internationally recognised clinician and researcher devoted to treating brain tumour patients and finding new treatments, based at the University of Glasgow.

He says the announcement offers “genuine hope” that desperately needed breakthroughs for brain tumour patients will be able to take place.

"I’m deeply honoured and extremely excited to have this opportunity to help improve outcomes for patients with brain tumours through a properly resourced national initiative,” he adds.

When you, or someone you love is diagnosed with a brain tumour, our loved ones offer us support and do what they can to help. But, when we are going through traumatic times, there is nothing quite like talking to someone who has had a similar experience and really 'gets it'.

Through our support groups and Facebook forum, we provide safe spaces where you can connect with others who have lived experience of a brain tumour diagnosis. You can express your feelings and worries, ask questions, or just listen or read other experiences. This can be a real life line and help you feel less alone.
