This special event is a lovely informal, relaxing social occasion, where parents and carers can make connections and grow support in a safe understanding environment.

The table is set with fine China and spread with some delicious bakes!

Join us this Saturday 24th October, 11am - 1pm at our venue in St Mary Centre Thornbury. Everyone is welcome!

🙋‍♀️ Our SENsory Lending Library will be open for you to browse the catalogue, try out toys and sensory equipment and arrange a loan for the half term holiday! No need to book, just drop in.

☕️🧁 Refreshments will be available to purchase from our Young Volunteers in our Community Cafe

📣 A hands on workshop with Sue for parents and carers to create personalised visual resources to support family routines, such as:
- A morning and bedtime routine board
- First and Then boards
- Now and Next boards
- Visual schedules

✅️ We'll provide all the material, symbols, laminating and Velcro - you just bring your ideas! We'll be on hand to help you design resource that suit your child and your family's routines.

🚸 If you have young children with you, they are welcome to enjoy our sensory area during the session too.

Don't miss out this half term! 🕺Silent Disco at The Armstrong for young people with additional needs or disabilities aged 14-25!

Whether you're a total dancing superstar or prefer a little boogie from the side lines, there's no right or wrong way to enjoy our Silent Disco! We'll have a tuck shop available with snacks and treats too. 🍭

Young people ages 14+ can be left by their parents or carers however, adults are welcome to stay if this would help the young person join in.

📢 We're recruiting! Finance Lead at JIGSAW Thornbury.

Are you confident with numbers and passionate about making a difference? We’re looking for a Finance Lead to help us make the most of our resources and maximise the difference we make to children and young people with additional needs or disabilities, and their families.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your financial skills to support a local charity making a real difference in our community.

✨ What’s on offer?
⏰ 12–15 hours per week, to be agreed
💷 £14.89 per hour, with an annual pay review
💚 A meaningful role where your skills directly support our charitable work
🤝 The opportunity to work with our team and Trustees to help keep JIGSAW financially sustainable

🎃🍂 A little bit of autumn creativity at Home Ed! 🍂🎨

This afternoon was all about pumpkins and tie-dye! 🎃👜

We had great fun getting stuck into some pumpkin carving, scooping out all the guts (a sensory experience in itself! 😂) and seeing what spooky creations we could come up with.

Then it was on to tie-dye bags, with lots of colour, creativity and a little bit of let’s see what happens if we do this! 🌈 No two bags were the same, and that’s exactly how we like it!

We love seeing where these activities take us and watching everyone make things their own. Sometimes it’s about the finished creation, and sometimes it’s just about having a go, getting messy and enjoying the process. 💚

🌿 Home Ed Support Group runs on Thursday afternoons.

🌟 A huge well done to Jack! 🌟

We’re so proud of one of our youth members, Jack, who decided to take on his own Thrive in 30 challenge over the summer, reaching the finish line in September!
Jack put his own unique spin on Thrive in 30 by taking part in six different 5K parkruns, covering an amazing 30K in total! 🏃‍♂️

He was joined by Hattie, our CEO, for his final run, where they celebrated his fantastic achievement with a handmade sign created especially for Jack!

Throughout his challenge, Jack has raised a whopping £684 for JIGSAW Thornbury! These funds will help ensure our charity can continue to thrive, just like Jack!

📣 We're pleased to announce that with continued funding by South Gloucestershire Council schools SEND cluster we are able to continue offering our Project 5 Growing Empowerment Together programme here at JIGSAW Thornbury for the next year.

✅️ These monthly sessions are for anyone aged 8-25 with additional needs or disabilities, and any siblings, to attend with their parents or carers to help grow their empowerment together. You do not need to be an existing member of JIGSAW Thornbury to attend. So please feel free to share with your school community and anyone else you think would benefit.

✅️ Designed around the 5 ways to wellbeing, our Project 5 programme aims to empower connections, confidence in communicating needs, mindfulness, and owning strengths. Through games and craft activities linked to themes, the family have a chance to build confidence, encourage communication, learn skills, share, and connect with peers.

✅️ Cost per session is inclusive of refreshments, snacks, all craft materials and printed resources. Subsidised places are offered at £5 per family of 2 for those living in eligible areas (see event booking page for full details of qualifying schools)

They planned it. They organised it. And then they made it happen! 👏

Our Youth Entrepreneurs recently took on the challenge of planning and running their own Celebration Evening at Hawkes House in Thornbury, putting their skills into practice in a real working environment. From planning and preparing food to cooking, serving, working behind the bar, welcoming guests, giving speeches and working alongside the venue team, they had the opportunity to experience what it really takes to make an event happen.

And what an evening it was!

We saw teamwork, confidence, communication, organisation, independence and plenty of stepping outside comfort zones. But rather than us telling you how well they did, we thought we'd let our guests do the talking…

86% of customer reviews rated the opportunity “Very well”, with the remaining rating it “Well”. Feedback included young people being described as professional, confident, enthusiastic, efficient and welcoming. One guest simply summed it up as: “What a fantastic achievement for them all.”

A huge well done to every young person involved. You should be incredibly proud of what you achieved.

And thank you to everyone who came along, supported them and took the time to give us such lovely feedback.

Kick off the half term holiday by visiting the JIGSAW SENsory Lending Library. Drop in on Saturday 24th October anytime between 11am and 1pm to browse our growing catalogue of specialist items - no need to book!

New additions this term include a couple of stacks of books, with a focus on parenting and several from the 'Topsy and Tim' series that gently introduce children to new experiences. 📖 We are also delighted to share refreshed sets of toys and visual aids, which make medical appointments and hospital trips feel less scary through play. 🚑🏥👩‍⚕️
