We are so proud of two of our incredible young members who are stepping up for the ultimate challenge! 💥 They’ve officially signed up for the Tough Mudder with Elite Fitness Thornbury this year who have a team of 16 local people taking part all to raise money for our charity.

On August 15th, they’ll be conquering 15km and 20 brutal obstacles as they take on the South West Tough Mudder. They’ve been putting in major work at Elite gym, including this intense PT session with our CEO, Hattie, who is also taking on the challenge alongside them! 💪✨

Drop a comment to show them some love and support, and head to our sponsorship page if you want to contribute.

We are proud to announce that one of our youth volunteers was presented with the Clare Fardell award at the annual Thornbury Volunteer Centre celebration lunch last week! 👏 🤩

This was well deserved for leadership of our monthly Cafe for the Community and endless efforts to ensure everyone can relax whilst their drink of choice is prepared. We feel very fortunate that this volunteer chooses to give her time and skills to our charity when we know she is so busy helping so many people in the community.

You can read more about the award on the Thornbury Volunteer Centre website: https://buff.ly/Z8GZ838

This week, we were delighted to have a student from Castle School Sixth Form joining us for work experience, working with 8 different members of our team for hands on experience of a wide variety of tasks. This included supporting Bonnie, our Community Fundraising and Participation Lead, with developing our Thrive in 30 campaign – a fun and inspiring way to boost wellbeing while raising vital funds for JIGSAW Thornbury.

She worked on creating fresh challenge ideas including:

📚 30 Days of Reading
🎨 30 Days of Colouring
⚽ 30 Days of Summer Sports
📵 30 Days of a Digital Detox
📸 30 Days of Summer Photos

Could you take on your own 30-day challenge this summer? Whether you complete it consecutively or build in a few well-earned rest days, it's a great opportunity to focus on your wellbeing, learn something new, and make a difference by fundraising for JIGSAW Thornbury.

This we're shining a light on how our regular Training and Awareness sessions help our parents and carers feel empowered and supported.

Join us for the next one on Thursday 16th July for an evening Transitions and Daily Routines Workshop - designed especially for parents and carers of children with additional needs or disabilities who want calmer, more manageable days.

We will be looking at:
• Why transitions can feel so overwhelming for children
• Understanding what's happening beneath the behaviour
• Practical strategies to make everyday routines smoother
• How to reduce stress around key moments like mornings, mealtimes, and bedtime

By attending, you'll gain tools to better understand your child's needs, reduce day-to-day stress, and build more positive, confident relationships at home. These workshops are also a chance to connect with others who truly 'get it', helping you feel less alone on your journey.

If you're looking for support that is realistic, compassionate, and genuinely helpful, these workshops are for you - because small changes can make a big difference for the whole family.

It's Carers Week 8-14 June, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. The Carers UK website offers help and advice, including how to access financial support ➡️ https://buff.ly/NLJIUmt

The theme for is Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlighting the impact carer friendly communities can have in making a real and lasting difference.

Our Parent and Carer Wellbeing Events are specifically aimed at supporting the physical, social, emotional, and mental wellbeing of parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs or disabilities. We offer a range of activities, creating a space for parents and carers to be reminded of who they are as individuals outside of their daily caring responsibilities.

We have a few spaces available at our upcoming evening events this Summer term - Woodland Wellbeing 'Food on the Flame' and a fun outdoor archery session with Tockington Archers. Book via our website (link in bio)

For our SENsory Lending Library display this term, we are showing a range of items to help make common activities less stressful.

Here are a few examples.

🥣Mealtimes can be tricky when children find eating challenging. For picky eaters, the ‘Dinner Winner’ plates turn food into a game, with the prize of their favourite treat at the end.

🍴 The process of using cutlery is quite complex to learn, especially for children who have limited dexterity. Easy-to-hold cutlery can help develop fine motor skills and coordination.

⌛️ Ever experienced tantrums when trying to end an activity? Many children and young people find this difficult, but it can be particularly challenging for those who are neurodivergent. Although not magic, using colourful timers can help to ease the transition between activities!

Our members, schools and organisations can all borrow from the SENsory Lending Library. We just ask that once a year, you sign up to our loan conditions. You can then collect and return items at the JIGSAW Thornbury venue in the St Mary’s Centre and let us know how long you want to borrow them, between 1 and 4 weeks.

You can browse our catalogue when you visit, or have a look here: https://buff.ly/yac7MEl

Members can access our SENsory Lending Library at any of our group sessions. We also host drop in sessions on the fourth Saturday of the month, where you can borrow and return items or chat to us about what to try. The next one is on Saturday 27th June, 11am - 1pm.

If you can’t make any of these times, or would like to talk to someone about what is available, please contact us to arrange a separate visit or chat.

🎉 Our youth volunteers have now contributed 1,000 hours to our charity! 👏

Over the last 2 years since the scheme began, 31 young people have been involved in our fundraising events, helping to run or prepare for our services, and even speaking at events. Between them, they have achieved 35 awards including the South Gloucestershire Youth Volunteer Award, Lions Award for Community Service, The Clare Fardell Award from Thornbury Volunteer Centre and ASDAN short courses.

Hattie, our CEO shares her thoughts, "I am so proud of every young person who has contributed to this amazing achievement. Not only for their time and generosity, but also for the way they conduct themselves when volunteering for JIGSAW. They are excellent representatives of our charity, contributing innovative ideas, empowering each other, celebrating each person's unique strengths, and treating each other and their community with compassion. The power of living by these values should not be underestimated."

Thank you to each and every one of you for everything that you do! 🤩

📣 Calling our members aged 14-25. 💭 Ever fancied having a go at Axe Throwing? Well now is your chance!

You are invited to spend an hour in the grounds of the beautiful Thornbury Castle, learning to Axe Throw with a professional instructor. This will be a small group activity on supported by a member of JIGSAW staff and one of our volunteers, so there will be plenty of people on hand to support you during the session.

Targets will be shared by a maximum of 2 young people, so there won't be lots of waiting around. It looks set to be a fun session, learning a brilliant new skill while connecting with other young people.
