There will be increased movement by aircraft operating from RAF Leeming from 19 January to 6 February. The Station will be hosting helicopters for an Exercise which will include low and late flying. There will also be some increased jet movement during daylight hours on 26/27 Jan and 2/3 Feb.

We understand our responsibility as good neighbours to inform the local community of such events that are additional to our normal flying activities and every effort will be made to keep the disturbance to a minimum.

Station Road in Thirsk update.

Unfortunately, we have discovered additional drainage issues that could not have been uncovered or mitigated prior to the start of the works.

We are surfacing the majority of the currently unsurfaced road before the Christmas period. Work will then be suspended for Christmas and will resume in January to reconstruct and resurface the section in front of Tesco Petrol Station.

The target completion date is currently the end of February, but this date could be affected by weather or other unforeseen issues.

Thank you for your patience during these works, and we apologise for any inconvenience they may cause.

We have received an update on the issues with local bin emptying from North Yorkshire Council, as below:

Over recent weeks, we've experienced ongoing service disruptions due to a combination of factors. While we've prioritised domestic waste collections and the implementation of new collection rounds, this has unfortunately led to a decline in standards across other areas of the service. The impact has been most noticeable in our street cleansing operations, with some litter bins overflowing between collections and bring sites/mini recycling centres remaining full for longer than usual.

Several challenges are currently affecting service delivery:
A spike in staff absences and increased staff turnover.
Difficulties in the local recruitment market, with some new hires not progressing as hoped.
Limited availability of suitable candidates for permanent roles.

To address these issues, we’ve taken the following actions:
Collaborated with our HR team to bring in agency staff to provide immediate cover.
Launched a focused recruitment drive for permanent team members.
Reallocated resources between depots to reduce service disruption.
Offered overtime opportunities to existing staff to help maintain service levels.

If you receive any complaints or concerns in the coming weeks, please continue to share them with us. Your support and patience during this period of short-term pressure are greatly appreciated.

Check your bin collection day, find your nearest waste recycling centre, pay garden waste and report a missed bin.

Sowerby Play Area will be closed tomorrow. Friday 8th August,

We apologise for the inconvenience this causes during the school holidays, but it is necessary to ensure the safety of all users.
We appreciate your understanding.
