Thank you so, so much to the kind person that sent food and hay today from our Amazon wishlist. We are so grateful 🙏❤️
We always need hay, hard feed, mite treatment and at the moment we are desperate for water bottles. Lots of ours have got very drippy and if we have spares it makes the morning feed sessions so much quicker, it's currently 90 mins in the morning and 90 mins at night.
Thank you so much to everyone for being so kind 🙏💔💞

Guinea pigs are a great reminder life isn't perfect.
The homes with the most fun and memories are often messy. Life isn't perfect, people are not perfect.
And guess what! Guinea pigs have a better life and a better environment, if it's not perfect.
One of the enclosures below isn't perfect, yet time and time again we see this exact picture with exactly the same enrichment in it being described as guinea pig heaven. Which one do you think guinea pigs get the best enrichment from?

Part of our rescue is about supporting with education and breaking down ridiculous barriers that humans have created around guinea pigs.
One of the largest barriers we fight on a weekly basis is the boar 'b**ls**t that's been created on social media.
At the start of this year we said, our females now will only be rehomed into exciting groups and if you were having first time guinea pigs, please do consider males.
Males have a higher chance of being dumped. They wait longer in rescue and are often treated incredibly badly. All down to social media utter nonsense.
We also feel that where possible, girls can benefit from being in a larger group.
Our rules haven't changed. We want for our girls to go into homes where there are already girls, even if it's only one.
We continue to fight the nonsense around males.
This week alone we have had the excuses that we have to re-home girls to adopters because -
Our children bought everything pink
We want to start a herd - wait till you find out that cost
We don't care what you say my girls want it they will have it.
You won't, not here. We have to stop this rubbish of boars being worthless and we have to break down these barriers ❤️

We love it when someone walks in the door and says not only do they want to re-home one pair of boars, but they want two pairs 🙏
Today a wonderful lady adopted two pairs of our boars and had two wonderful set ups ready and waiting to be filled with beautiful boars ❤️
We always have so many boars waiting for homes and waiting so long, it's so wonderful to see them get great homes 🙏❤️

Who remembers the full bale of 'wasted hay' we added to the herd on Saturday afternoon??
Well we are now on Wednesday and it's also all been consumed. Here's some before and after photos.
Let's also point out that daily they have been having veg, dried herbs and their pellets.
No 'wasted' hay here ❤️

Females.
Despite what the internet tells you, females do need to be bonded. These little souls are often thought of that you can just 'pop one in' and life is merry.
That's not true and so terribly unfair 😔
Not every female guinea pig will like every female it's introduced to. Some don't cause too much fuss and are happy to see a friend. But all too often that isn't true.
Sows deserve and need careful bonding with new enclosure friends. Some of the worst bonding fights we have seen have been between females.
We currently have two sows in the rescue that have recently recovered from veterinary treatment with their eyes, from failed sow bondings where the other sow has gone for their eyes.
It is so sad to see how many owners believe girls can just be thrown together 💔
Every guinea pig deserves the right to be bonded correctly to live the best possible life ❤️

The next few days are set to be very hot. Here are some quick tips for coping with your piggies in hit weather.
- check water bottles are working. Change the water throughout the day where you can and if possible add more water bottles or bowls.
- where you can bring guinea pigs into a cooler room. But ensure grid style cages have lids on if windows are open. Last year we had guinea pigs arrive into us, because their cage mate in a grid style cage was attacked.
- feed more watery veg such as cucumber and peppers.
- avoid fruits as this will encourage wasps and bees.
- freeze water in a drink bottle, such as a small bottle of coke. Pop a sock over the top and your guinea pig can lay next to it.
- We always add ample hay, some of our guinea pigs lay under it to get in the shade.
- where you can, try to add some form of shade.
- monitor your guinea pigs regularly.
