The Rotary Club of Pangbourne was formed in 1989 and currently has 35 members. We meet on Monday evenings usually at The Bull, 41 High Street, Theale RG7 5 AH

We have speakers on a variety of subjects, discussions on topics of interest, or fellowship activities (see our programme). In addition to the regular club meetings we have a varied programme of social and

fund-raising events for members and their families to take part in. Our social events have included Petanque evenings, summer BBQs, local walks, Christmas parties and trips to the theatre. Rotary International (RI) is a worldwide organisation with a membership of 1.2 million men and women of all ages in over 34000 clubs. It was founded by an attorney, Paul Harris, based in Chicago in 1905 and since then it has spread to over 200 countries. Its members, Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In Great Britain and Ireland alone, there are over 55000 Rotarians in 1850 clubs. Rotary Clubs are based in local communities with its members meeting on a regular basis for fun and fellowship, and to plan its programme of events, either social, fund raising, or community service based.

Pangbourne Rotary Club is awarded a Siver Partner certificate for donating £ 4,225 to ShelterBox in the past year.
ShelterBox provides rapid aid to global disasters by sending pre-prepared aid boxes to disaster areas.
This amount was from personal donations from two Members.
The officiial citation reads
"According to our records*, the members of the Rotary Club of Pangbourne raised a total of £4,225 during Rotary year 25-26. In light of this, we would like to award your Rotary Club a Silver Partner Club Certificate - congratulations!
A message from our CEO, Sanj Srikanthan:
“We are so very grateful for the generosity and ongoing support of your Rotary club, which enables us to stay prepared for the next disaster. This proved vital following Hurricane Melissa and the earthquakes in the Philippines, where we were able to use pre-purchased stock held in our global warehouses."

DRAGONS BREATHE £6500 into Charity
The final sum (reported earlier to be over £4000) turned out to be £6500 when all the beans were counted.
This enabled us to donate a total of ~ £3900 to our beneficiary Charites:
National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) and
Faith Christian Group Reading (ReadiFood, ReadiStreet, Reading Pantries, A Bed for the Night) ,as well as £2600 to the Club’s own Charitable Fund.
In the picture, Charlotte Allum from Purley (Fundraising and Events Officer for NRAS) is seen receiving a cheque from Tony Eldridge (Dragon Boats Organiser) and Malcolm Sandham (Community Service Chair).
Charlotte commented
“… we are so incredibly grateful for all your support.
As a reminder, this is how your wonderful donation will help all those with rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis in the UK:
£36.10 pays for one vital NRAS Helpline call providing comfort, support and information at a time of crisis.
£106.20 gives access to our interactive SMILE-RA programme for 6 people to learn about RA, its treatments and how to become better at supported self-management.
£448.94 will run our Right Start service for a week helping those newly diagnosed and living with RA to get the right emotional and practical support
£1359.30 enables our Information and Support team to provide our RA community with information and emotional support for a week”.

Our Charitable Trust supported over 60 causes with donations of over £55000 last year.
In the 25 years of Dragon Boats we estimate over £100,000 has been donated to charity as well as an estimated £250,000 raised by the sponsorship of the individual crews.

Outgoing President Brian Davies revealed a whopping £55421.99 donated to charities in the last year and passes the Presidential Chain of Office to Marius Hopley.
At our President’s Night a meeting at Goring and Streatley Golf Club on 26th June, outgoing President Brian from Upper Basildon revealed a whopping amount of £55421.99 had been donated to Charity in the last 12 months. Brian told the audience of over 30 Rotarians, partners and friends how much he had enjoyed his year as President and had tried to ensure the Club was friendly, full of fun with a high external exposure, with a strong emphasis of doing good and fund-raising, enriching the lives of those we support. He developed the theme of “family” and how the Club members supported each other through thick and thin and praised the efforts of so many members for their contributions over the year.

Service above Self- Dean Chamberlain and Ailsa Skinner.
Brian bowed out to the refrain of “We are Family” by Sister Sledge before handing over the Presidential Chain of Office to Marius Hopley from Southcote. Brian noted that Marius had over 25 years distinguished service in Rotary and his skillset will enable the Club to perform at an even higher level in future. Marius then thanked Brian for his year in Office, highlighting his energy ,leadership, humour, ability to stand in at short notice and to promote the Club externally. He then presented a bouquet to Angela Davies highlighting her contribution to Publicity material and support for Brian, before handing over the President- Elect chain to Tony Nottridge.
We wish Marius and Tony a successful Rotary year, which officially starts on 1st July.
To conclude Tony Eldridge then presented prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship Awards (named after Rotary’s founder and presented for exceptional service) to
Saerah Hopley and Brian Davies.

Additionally, existing Fellows had their awards upgraded:-
Marius Hopley, Clive Williams, Jerry Wilson, Jim Skinner and Tony Nottridge for exceptional service over many years.

Members left having enjoyed a well-organised, rewarding and often hilarious meeting.

Pangbourne Rotary Club donates £600 to Hampshire & Berkshire 4x4 Response.
Running the parking at the Pangbourne Fete was even more difficult this year for Pangbourne Rotary Club due to a new one-way system and parking area plus teething problems compounded by record numbers!
Fortunately, members of Hampshire and Berkshire 4 X 4 response charity had volunteered to assist us, rallied to the cause and pulled out all the stops on the day to ensure a smooth operation, acknowledged by many.
Accordingly, the Club decided to donate £600 to the charity and Mike Pearson (Chairman) was presented with a “cheque” at a Club meeting on 22nd June.

Dragon Boat Racing-another roaring success-raising over £4000 for Charity.
The weather was great on Saturday 13th June at the Pangbourne Fete and. The racing was competitive, with several close finishes.
In a thrilling final, newcomers, No 5 Young People edged out previous winners, Humphrey’s Furry Friends from Kennet Valley Free Church by half a second.( see video from the official racetimekeeper)
President Brian Davies is seen presenting the winning captain with the Dragon Trophy, whist the other picture typifies how close the racing was.

But everyone was a winner, having had a great fun day out.
Our beneficiary charities were Faith Christian Group and National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society as well as our own Charitable Trust, which makes donations to worthy causes throughout the year.
We would like to thank Henley Dragons for running the racing and the crews, who also raise considerable funds through their own sponsorship, and also our sponsors

PANGBOURNE ROTARY CLUB INDUCTS NEW MEMBER, DR STEPHEN WESTON.
Stephen was admitted as a Member of Pangbourne Rotary Club on Monday 1st June.
His sponsor, President Brian Davies introduced Stephen to the Club
Stephen has moved from London to Upper Basildon. He is a Visiting Professor at Imperial College ,London, an expert in AI , CEO of an IT/Publishing company as well as a budding author, having penned six fiction novels in just over a year.
Our most-recent member (of just over a month) Trevor Goodall read Stephen the Object of Rotary before President Brian formally inducted Stephen into the Club and the wonderful world of the Rotary organisation globally.
Stephen said he was looking forward to helping with our fund-raising events and has already volunteered to run one next year..
Members then came forward and welcomed Stephen to our hard-working, fun-loving and successful Club.

Another good cause supported-Chapter 2
Pangbourne Rotary Club donated £500 to Chapter 2, a charity which believes every boy needs a good man to guide him to adulthood. They carefully match fatherless boys with a dedicated male mentor who will build a trusted relationship over the long-term.
