The Rotary Club of Pangbourne

The Rotary Club of Pangbourne was formed in 1989 and currently has 35 members. We meet on Monday evenings usually at The Bull, 41 High Street, Theale RG7 5 AH

We have speakers on a variety of subjects, discussions on topics of interest, or fellowship activities (see our programme). In addition to the regular club meetings we have a varied programme of social and

fund-raising events for members and their families to take part in. Our social events have included Petanque evenings, summer BBQs, local walks, Christmas parties and trips to the theatre. Rotary International (RI) is a worldwide organisation with a membership of 1.2 million men and women of all ages in over 34000 clubs. It was founded by an attorney, Paul Harris, based in Chicago in 1905 and since then it has spread to over 200 countries. Its members, Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In Great Britain and Ireland alone, there are over 55000 Rotarians in 1850 clubs. Rotary Clubs are based in local communities with its members meeting on a regular basis for fun and fellowship, and to plan its programme of events, either social, fund raising, or community service based.

Dragon Boat Racing-another roaring success-raising over £4000 for Charity.
The weather was great on Saturday 13th June at the Pangbourne Fete and. The racing was competitive, with several close finishes.
In a thrilling final, newcomers, No 5 Young People edged out previous winners, Humphrey’s Furry Friends from Kennet Valley Free Church by half a second.( see video from the official racetimekeeper)
President Brian Davies is seen presenting the winning captain with the Dragon Trophy, whist the other picture typifies how close the racing was.

But everyone was a winner, having had a great fun day out.

We have donated £500 to this worthy cause.
Loose Ends Newbury

Loose Ends Newbury is a well established drop-in centre for anyone in our community who may otherwise go without a hot meal. We welcome people who are homeless, lonely or vulnerable as well as those who are simply struggling to make ends meet. We are a registered charity and are run entirely by unpaid volunteers.
As well as providing nutritious food, clothes, and other essentials we offer a safe friendly space where people can socialise. We also liaise with other agencies who may be able to help our clients so that together, we can make a difference to people’s lives"

DINGLEY’S PROMISE WINS AGAIN

Pangbourne Rotary Club’s Art Exhibition raised over £2500 for charity, with Dingley's Promise and Pangbourne Rotary's Charitable Fund the main beneficiaries.
About 40 artists exhibited (with 20 new exhibitors) and 45 out of 268 paintings were sold-an excellent result
Once again, the Schools Art Competition was a great success, appreciated by the public and school children alike.
Dingley’s Promise support young children with special educational needs and disabilities at the most critical stage of their development — the early years.
In their specialist centres, they provide tailored therapeutic support, adapted learning environments, and expert practitioners who help children build communication, confidence, and independence.
The charity recently won Charity of the Year at the Newbury Best in Business Awards — and were also awarded the overall Best in Business.

Catherine Mole MBE (CEO of Dingley's Promise) opened the exhibition. She is pictured with President Brian Davies in jovial mood after the opening.
Other pictures show the Pangbourne Primary KS2 entries alongside Mal Sandham (Schools competition organiser) and a cheque presentation for £1549 to Dingley’s Promise, (represented by Kate Martin – Head of Fundraising ,
Zoe Cox – West Berks Centre Manager and Joanna Carter – Fundraising Co-ordinator) by Paul Sampson (Art Exhibition organiser) and Brian Davies (President).
Brian commented "It is wonderful to see where the money rasied goes and to see some happy smiling faces of the youngsters benefitting from the generosity of the public"

We thank all the volunteers who made this event possible and Caversham Picture Framers for sponsoring the Schools Art Competition. The preview evening was sponsored by Strutt and Parker and Green Parlour florists.

Still time to enter crews for our Dragon Boats on Saturday 13th June at Pangbourne Meadows.
