Something new is coming to Vital Village

The Village Pantry is a shared space built with the help of local people and volunteers, bringing together food, everyday essentials and simple ways to support each other.

You’ll find:
• surplus food
• low-cost refills
• locally made goods

It is a space to use, support and be supported as part of everyday life.

🍌 Food Waste Action Week at Vital Village 🌍

This week we’ve been busy in the Vital Village kitchen, turning food that might otherwise have been wasted into something delicious.

So far we’ve made:

🍌 Banana cake and banana compote from very ripe bananas
🥐 Bread & butter pudding using surplus pastries that would otherwise have been binned
🍅 Tomato sauce using large catering tins of tomatoes
🧅 Caramelised onion chutney made from over 8kg of onions

All of this food has been carefully prepared, labelled and shared with our community — giving good ingredients a second life instead of sending them to waste. Oh and the jars are repurposed too!

This kind of practical food rescue will become part of the Village Pantry, where we’ll continue finding creative ways to use surplus ingredients and support the community.
