Reflecting on our conversations with Freddie
One week after our discussion with Freddie Van Mierlo MP, we want to highlight some of the experiences our carers shared with him from their collective background of providing care for people with dementia.
Our carers have felt:
- Relieved that local groups like the Memories Cafe exist as a crucial space to socialise and support each other
- Surprised that they’d received more useful information from fellow carers at the Memories Cafe than anything healthcare providers had given them
- And frustrated because many felt they’d fallen through the cracks between primary care, social services, and local agencies, and the cafe was their safety net.
