Reflecting on our conversations with Freddie

One week after our discussion with Freddie Van Mierlo MP, we want to highlight some of the experiences our carers shared with him from their collective background of providing care for people with dementia.

Our carers have felt:

- Relieved that local groups like the Memories Cafe exist as a crucial space to socialise and support each other

- Surprised that they’d received more useful information from fellow carers at the Memories Cafe than anything healthcare providers had given them

- And frustrated because many felt they’d fallen through the cracks between primary care, social services, and local agencies, and the cafe was their safety net.

If you’d like to access the support available at the Memories Cafe, we are always delighted to welcome new members. To find out more or to read about our carers’ lived experiences, please visit our website:

Freddie, accompanied by Thame’s Mayor Cllr Andy Gilbert and Deputy Mayor Cllr Andy Wainwright, greatly enjoyed sitting and speaking with our memb...

Fantastic to welcome Freddie van Mierlo for Henley and Thame - Liberal Democrat MP to the Memories Cafe and Friendship centre on Tuesday. We enjoyed chatting with Freddie about local issues, and it was great to see him taking on board the experiences and suggestions of the members of our Carers Hub!

HOPE'S NEXT CHALLENGE

Our lovely summer volunteer Hope, fresh from her adventures on the CPM Thame 10k is now embarking on a much bigger challenge! Hope is going to attempt the Chiltern 50 Ultra Challenge which is a 50K walk/run which takes place on 26 September from Henley. Hope has once again decided to do this in aid of Thame Senior Friendship Centre and would love to ask anyone who'd like to support her in this enormous undertaking to sponsor her by using this link:
