It's Volunteers' Week!!!
A week where we say a huge ⭐️⭐️THANK YOU⭐️⭐️ to our amazing volunteers! And we have quite a few of them.

Not only do we want to say thank you to our CFR colleagues across the board, but there are a whole host of other volunteers supported by our wonderful charity. We have Military Co-Responders who work very similarly to CFRs. Volunteer car drivers who get the public to and from their appointments. BASICS doctors and paramedics who give their time outside of work to provide care to those who are critically sick or injured. And we also have volunteers who give their time to ensure that the work we do, and publications we make are made available to everyone, including in easy read formats.

So THANK YOU!

With this weekend's heatwave, here are a few tips to keep you safe.

Please check on your vulnerable family and friends who may be at greater risk from the heat.

And also visit the The Lullaby Trust for information on how to keep babies safe.

Did anyone watch last week's Ambulance?

They followed Roy, a CFR for Yorkshire Ambulance Service. During the programme you see Roy being first on scene, providing reassurance and a calmness which helps to put the patients at ease. He quickly identifies what may be going on and is able to start appropriate treatment all before an ambulance could get there.

These are the benefits of having a CFR in the community.

These people come from all walks of life, however they have a mutual interest in helping people when it's needed.

Yesterday, 2 of our volunteers went to a preschool in Harwell to talk to the children about what we do. They took a teddy who felt very poorly, and the children took turns in finding out what may be wrong with teddy.
They looked in his eyes, ears and mouth with a pen torch
They took teddy's temperature, pulse and sats.
They had a go at bandaging his arms and legs then took him off to hospital (into bed in the home corner).

It was great fun!

It is the last day of 2025 and we currently have 42 of our volunteer South Central Ambulance Charity Community First Responders & Co-Responders logged on across the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust region.

On Christmas Day, our volunteer responders provided nearly 200 hours of cover between them across the patch, this is a fantastic achievement.

Wishing all of our followers, volunteer first responders and staff a very safe and Happy New Year.

One of our aims is to teach CPR skills to 10,000 pupils across the SCAS patch. Our very own volunteers attended secondary schools in our area, Wallingford and even Banbury and managed to train over 250 year 7 students today. It was great to see them all engaging in our presentation and even got some hands on practice with our manikins.

Other CFR schemes also attended schools across Oxon, Bucks, Berks and Hampshire...that's a lot of brand new lifesavers out there!

⭐️⭐️TODAY IS RESTART A HEART DAY ⭐️⭐️

Would you know what to do if someone had a cardiac arrest in front of you?

Less than 10% of people who have a cardiac arrest survive, and for every minute that passes, that chance is reduced by a further 10%.

Early CPR and defibrillation is key to survival. The British Heart Foundation have a fabulous online tool that teaches you what to do in just 15 minutes at
https://www.bhf.org.uk/how-you-can-help/how-to-save-a-life/how-to-do-cpr/learn-cpr-in-15-minutes

Please take 15 minutes out of your day today to learn this vital skill, it may just save someone's life.

⭐️⭐️DOES YOUR COMMUNITY HAVE A DEFIBRILLATOR BUT UNSURE HOW TO USE IT?⭐️⭐️
Or you would just like a refresher?

Get in touch with us today to see how the Abingdon & Didcot Community First Responders can help you.

Our CFRs joined in with Abingdon Health Fest this weekend, teaching the public vital lifesaving skills and giving them the chance to have a go at using a defibrillator.

We also had some other equipment available for everyone to look at including the LUCAS device which provides chest compressions on a patient during a cardiac arrest allowing our crews to be hands free and focus on other jobs such as giving medications.
