What Happened at the Extraordinary General Meeting?
Thank you to the residents who kindly joined our Association’s Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday.
The view of the meeting was that it would wish the Association to take a lead on coordinating a response on behalf of residents to Oxfordshire County Council’s Review of Road Safety, including speed limits, on roads such as Tythrop Way, which is expected to start in April.
The Association’s Committee will look to organise a meeting about the public consultation to gather the views of residents then coordinate a response to the County Council’s Review. One of the reasons why a residents’ association is important is that representations made by residents’ associations are given weight in council decision-making.
Although it was well attended and several residents kindly expressed interest in supporting road safety measures specifically and leaflet delivery, we are still lacking members to join the Committee. The residents present hoped that engaging the wider Lea Park community around the road safety issue, an issue of relevance to us all, might provide a springboard for renewed engagement with our work. This could therefore generate some interest in committee membership. Since we will only have 3 members and not have essential roles such as Treasurer and potentially Chair filled from the Annual General Meeting in May, the Association will be disbanded if we cannot reach the 5 or more committee members necessary to function. If you are unsure, you are very welcome to join us for committee meetings as a guest and make a decision nearer the time. If you would like to help in a more casual way such as leaflet delivery, that is also most welcome.
It was also suggested by those present that a survey of resident priorities could be useful. Please kindly click on the link below to fill in this very short survey about what matters to you on Lea Park, and whether you can help the Association’s work.

If you have trouble with the form, of course feel free to email us on [email protected]
The dates for both the Annual General Meeting and for the suggested consultation meeting on the Road Safety / Speed Limit Review will be notified in the coming weeks (anticipated for May and March respectively)
In the meantime, we are keeping our fingers crossed that a beautiful show of purple crocuses will soon appear following our planting efforts in the autumn! 4000 bulbs were planted by the committee and members on the mound with silver birch trees by Harrison Place (Rugby Club end of the park) and we hope you will enjoy them.
Best wishes from the LPRA Committee,
Mark, Simon, David, Judith and Ruth

Message from Thames Valley Police

Are you look looking for a new challenge in 2025?

Maybe you’re looking for an opportunity to give something back to the community, or make a positive impact for someone who might be experiencing the worst day of their life. Maybe you’d like to push yourself and develop new skills and confidence.

You could find all of this, and more, by volunteering as a special constable with Thames Valley Police.

Special constables are volunteer police officers. As a Special, you wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment and hold the same power of arrest as your regular police officer colleagues.

In this unique role you will learn more about life and human nature than most people will ever see. You will need to contribute at least 18 hours per month, at times which fit around your life – whether that’s child care, education, work or other commitments – we make your shifts work.

Discover more about how you can play a vital role in helping to protect our communities, and learn about some of our current Specials in their own words by visiting our website > https://tvpcareers.co.uk/roles/special-constables/
