Just popping over to say hello🐥!

This fluffy little chick is one of the cutest youngesters we see here at Vale, but do you happen to know the family she belongs to? 🤔

While this little one may look tiny, raising orphaned wildlife is a huge commitment. From specialist diets and incubators to round-the-clock feeds, every patient requires dedicated care to give them the best chance of returning to the wild.

Orphan season is our busiest and most expensive time of year, and May was no exception, becoming our busiest month on record with an incredible 1,414 admissions. 😥

If you'd like to help wildlife like this chick receive the care they need, please consider supporting our Orphan Appeal: justgiving.com/campaign/be-their-lifeline

🐦 Happy National Pigeon Day! 🐦

From teeny-tiny nestlings and awkward little squeakers to fully-fledged adults, we see thousands - yes, thousands - of pigeons every year arrive in our care. Many are the result of falling from nests (pigeons are notoriously terrible nest builders!), whilst others have flown into windows or, sadly, have been victims of cruelty. Despite being one of the most common birds in our towns and cities, pigeons are often overlooked and misunderstood.

Yet these remarkable birds are true underdogs of our wildlife.

Did you know that pigeons are incredibly intelligent? They can recognise human faces, remember places for years, navigate over huge distances and even outperform some other wildlife species in problem-solving tasks. Their ancestors also played a vital role during both World Wars, carrying messages that helped save countless lives.

Today, they continue to need our help and compassion just as much as any other wild animal.

This National Pigeon Day, let's celebrate these fascinating birds and give them the recognition they deserve. 💚

Tuesday's Challenge 😓

These tiny hoglets are only a few days old and completely dependent on their mum for warmth, milk and protection. At this age, they're blind, vulnerable and usually tucked away in a carefully chosen nest, hidden from the world.

Unfortunately, hedgehogs don't come with little "Do Not Disturb" signs outside their accommodation (but how cute would that be😅) . They rely entirely on us humans to be considerate of their housing choices.

Before strimming, mowing long grass, clearing compost heaps, moving logs, lifting decking or tackling overgrown corners of the garden, please take a moment to check for wildlife. What looks like an untidy patch to us could be a nursery full of tiny hoglets.

A few extra minutes of care can make all the difference between life and death for a hedgehog family🦔.

If you'd like to help us continue caring for vulnerable wildlife like these little ones, please consider making a donation to our orphan appeal linked here - https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/be-their-lifeline

It’s National Volunteers’ Week, and today we want to say a huge THANK YOU to the incredible people who help keep Vale Wildlife Hospital running 💚

From cleaning enclosures and preparing food, to answering phones, transporting casualties, fundraising, helping in our charity shops and supporting the hundreds of animals arriving through our doors every week… our volunteers are at the very heart of everything we do.

Last year alone, we admitted over 8,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals - and we simply could not do it without the dedication, compassion and hard work of our volunteer team.

Wildlife rescue is demanding, emotional and often exhausting work, but our volunteers continue to show up day after day for the animals that need them most.

To every single volunteer, past and present - thank you for giving your time, energy and kindness to wildlife. You truly make such a difference every single day 🦊🦔🦉🦢
