Kemerton Conservation Trust We are a registered charity which aims to conserve wildlife and places of beauty in Worcestershire and adjoining counties for the public benefit.

Kemerton Conservation Trust (KCT) is a registered charity which aims to conserve wildlife and places of beauty in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and adjoining counties for the public benefit. Much of the Trust’s activity takes place in the area surrounding Bredon Hill in south Worcestershire, where there is a concentration of traditionally-managed farmland and woodland habitats and

flood meadows which are exceptionally rich in fauna and flora. The Trust has four main purposes:
• Managing important sites for the benefit of wildlife and landscape
• Developing innovative conservation practices
• Continuing a programme of scientific surveying, monitoring and analysis begun in 1980
• Educating the public, land managers, and other organisations about conservation priorities and practices

Reserves Officer Giles has been meeting some of the locals 😁. These friendly boys came to say hello while we were putting up bird boxes in an orchard today.

Some of the invertebrates seen on our insect guided walk yesterday at Kemerton Lake Nature Reserve - IDs on images. Hoverflies were particularly abundant - it seems to be a great year for them! There were lots of dragonflies and damselflies, as well as Marbled White butterflies too but they were too active in the sunshine so we didn;t get any photos. It was lovely to see so many members and new visitors at our Kemerton Lake Nature Reserve Open Day yesterday. The sun shone and walks were packed with flora, fauna and beautiful scenery. Thank you to our volunteers for making the event possible and thank you to everyone who came. Photos copyright Support Coordinator Kate Aubury.

We are excited to introduce our new part-time Reserves Officer Giles Alder. Giles has a huge amount of habitat management experience, including through other roles locally at Tewkesbury Nature Reserve and Cleeve Common, and will be leading on reserves management, as well as getting involved with new projects, events and surveying. Last week he joined Support Coordinator Kate Aubury for a tour of Kemerton Lake Nature Reserve before getting started clearing footpaths to the lake, and later this week he will join us at our Open Day. Welcome aboard Giles!

Today our wonderful work party volunteers were at Upham Meadow SSSI hand pulling Ragwort from the traditional hay meadow. Whilst Ragwort is a fantastic flower for pollinators, it is poisonous for cattle and has to be removed from the hay crop. It was very windy today but our volunteers did a great job clearing Ragwort from three of our parcels and we were rewarded with Skylarks galore, a Curlew calling, and a Common Tern fishing in the Avon. If you are visiting the lake over the coming days, watch where you walk! Tiny toadlets are on the move from the lake into the woods. They sometimes move en masse and we received reports of hundreds yesterday, while today there were only a few to be seen. We wish them luck on their journey! Today Support Coordinator Kate and Conservation Officer Mateo were doing a walk through of Aldwick Wood SSSI and The Bushes SSSI on Bredon Hill, considering possible surveys and projects to support the flora and fauna found there. Despite the rain we spotted a couple of brilliant beetles on our ramble (IDs on the images). Photos copyright Kate Aubury.
