Branch Chairwoman Ann Beaven presents a group photograph of C Company ,1st Battalion, The East Kent Regiment (The Buffs), to Mr Robin Wilkins, Curator of the Tenterden & District Museum.
Taken in May 1917, the large photograph shows men from Tenterden, St Michaels and Wittersham recently enlisted or conscripted as part of reinforcements for the Battalion, then in the frontline with the 6th Infantry Division in northern France.
The photo had been gifted by Colonel Peter Bishop (Deputy Lieutenant of Kent) to our Branch and is now in the safekeeping of our local history Museum.

It is with deepest sorrow that the Royal British Legion marks the death of our Sovereign and Patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen has served as Patron of the Royal British Legion since 6 February 1952. We are immensely thankful for Her Majesty’s faithful service, and we join the entire Armed Forces community in mourning the loss of its Commander-in-Chief.

The Queen’s unwavering dedication to the British Armed Forces will be greatly missed. Our sincere condolences are with the Royal Family at this time. Rbl.org.uk

The Branch schedules several talks by passionate lecturers through the year, generally on historical subjects, and we are always happy to welcome members of the public.
Information and date of future talks will be published on this page.

Slightly late for the actual anniversary of his death (19 May 1935), but a talk on T. E. Lawrence, the "Uncrowned King of Arabia", was given to the Branch by Member - and distinguished historian - Adrian Greaves, assisted by Committee Member Eric Crépin-Leblond, a few years ago.
Here are Lawrence's Arab dress exhibited in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and the frontispiece of an original (public) edition of 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom', his memoirs of the Arab Revolt (pictures courtesy Eric Crépin-Leblond).
