Karlos Update 🐾

Little kitten Karlos, who was handed into Market Hall Vets in a very poorly condition, has done remarkably well over the past week — but sadly, they are not out of the woods just yet.

Today, thanks to your incredibly kind donations, Karlos was able to have another vet check with the fantastic team at VETS Tŷ Gwyn.

The good news is that Karlos’s eyes have mostly cleared of the infection and inflammation. Our volunteers will continue with regular eye drops until this has completely resolved.

Karlos has also gained 100g this week. This is a modest weight gain and, ideally, we would have liked to see a little more, but it is still a positive step in the right direction.

Karlos is definitely brighter, but their appetite remains poor. They are mainly grazing on biscuits and are generally uninterested in treats and some of the foods we have offered. The vet also observed some discomfort when swallowing.

The biggest concern at the moment is that Karlos remains very lethargic.

Because of this, we have followed our vet’s advice and had a basic blood panel run today to help rule out some possible underlying causes, including anaemia or infection.

Karlos will now have anti-inflammatory medication and will continue to receive plenty of around-the-clock TLC from our wonderful volunteers. ❤️

We are keeping everything crossed that the next few days bring further improvement, and we hope to have a much more positive update to share with you soon.

Our fosterers are incredible, the rescue simply couldn’t exist without them.
The goodbyes are hard but the “look how well they have settled” happy updates are such a rush of happiness too.

Seeing them come in ruff around the edges and leave for new homes glowing.

And we think this bat 🦇 Halloween or gothic decoration looks amazing! 🤩

Starting to think all things hallowe’een and Christmas, ready for the witches market at Buddy’s Baked. What sort of things are people wanting?!?? Thinking book nooks, dragons, cauldrons and bats! 😊

Also decided that 10% of all sales will go to the wonderful South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue because I’m not allowed another cat (boo to hubby, apparently 5 is enough) so the next best thing I can do is give them a donation! I will also include any orders taken on the day.

Neutering support Swansea Neath Area

🐾 GOOD WELFARE STARTS AT HOME - NEUTER YOUR CAT

We haven’t had a large response from the original areas, and we still have some of the grant remaining. Because of this, we are now opening the scheme up to residents in the Port Talbot and Neath areas as well.

We’re grateful to have received a grant from Petplan Charitable Trust UK, allowing us to support a limited number of owned cats with subsidised neutering.
This scheme is available to low‑income households (under £28,000) living in:
Blaengwynfi, Abergwynfi, Croeserw, Glyncorrwg, Abercregan, Cymmer, Caerau, Cynonville, Pontrhydyfen, Cwmafan and now also Port Talbot and Neath.

You must also be able to get your cat to Swansea Cat Clinic, Llansamlet, and payment is required upfront to book your cat in.

Neuter or spay: £40
Optional microchip: +£10
This support is only available for owned cats.

🐱 Why These Areas?
We originally focused on the communities closest to the sanctuary due to a significant rise in outdoor litters and unneutered cats being surrendered. As uptake has been lower than expected, we’re now extending support to Port Talbot and Neath to help prevent further suffering and reduce the number of cats needing rescue.

South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue are gratefully seeking the following items to help us fundraise for the three most poorly kittens in our care.

Beans lip and eye reconstruction surgery.
Karlos blood tests etc for his chronic illness.
Chunk who has congenital deformities in his chest.

We are limited on what donations we can currently accept due to our main volunteer not being able to lift heavy donations while they wait for further surgery and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter.

Welcome to South Pembrokeshire Cat Rescue , Karlos ❤️

Karlos has come into our care after being found and handed in to Market Hall Vets.

He is very poorly and weak, desperately underweight, and has a large flea and worm burden. He also has significant eye problems, with suspected conjunctivitis and potentially a viral component. All of this has left him feeling extremely unwell and struggling to keep nutrition down.

He is currently on a regimen of Royal Canin Urgent Care food and Oralade for hydration. We are incredibly grateful to the supporters who donate these essentials to us through our Amazon Wishlist — your support really is life-saving. 🙏❤️

Karlos is going to need one-to-one specialist care throughout the bank holiday to give him the very best chance of pulling through. Kittens who have been chronically unwell for some time can deteriorate with alarming speed, sometimes with very little warning, despite every effort being made to help them.

But we remain optimistic for our little Karlos. ❤️

We are also incredibly grateful to our wonderful vets at VETS Tŷ Gwyn for squeezing Karlos in just before closing on bank holiday Saturday. He has had a full veterinary examination, proper vet prescribed effective parasite care and received anti-sickness medication to help support him while we work on getting him stronger.
