🎉💚 WELL… THIS IS RATHER EXCITING!! 💚🎉

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Redberth Croft CIC has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Social Business Awards Wales 2026 – One to Watch Award! 🥹🐴🌱🐑

For an organisation that only officially became a CIC just over two years ago, this one feels pretty special. Redberth Croft has never fitted particularly neatly into a box.

We're not simply a farm.
We're not simply a community project.
And we're certainly not a conventional service.

We're trying to create second chances — for people, animals, land and community.

A place where we look at what somebody can do rather than what they can't. Where lived experience isn't viewed as a disadvantage, but something that can become a strength. Where people can discover skills, take ownership of projects, lead others, build confidence or simply find somewhere they belong.

And where, quite often, animals who have themselves been given a second chance end up helping people find theirs. 💚

When we were formally established in June 2024, we had a huge vision for bringing together people, animals, agriculture, rural skills, conservation and enterprise in a very different kind of community environment.

Just over two years later, to see that work recognised on a Wales-wide stage is quite something.

But this recognition belongs to far more people than the Redberth Croft name.

It belongs to our volunteers who turn up and muck in. Our project leads who take ideas and make them their own. Our participants who trust us enough to become part of Croft life. Our directors, supporters, funders, local businesses and community partners who have backed us while we've built something that doesn't always fit a conventional model.

And it belongs to every person who has donated, shared a post, attended an event, bought something, offered advice, opened a door for us or simply told us to keep going.

You have all helped build this.

We're still young. We're still learning. We're still evolving. There are days when we're talking strategy, sustainability and social impact… and days when we're standing in a flooded farmhouse in wellies wondering what on earth has happened now. 😂

Perhaps that's why One to Watch feels particularly fitting.

Whatever happens next, being shortlisted alongside some fantastic Welsh social businesses is already a pretty significant milestone for our little corner of Pembrokeshire.

Not bad for the funny farm. 💚

🌧️💦 MORE CROFT CHAOS: FRIDAY FUNDAY 💦🌧️

Just another perfectly normal day at the farm… 😂

After this morning’s slight Pembrokeshire downpour, apparently the outdoors decided it would quite like to become the indoors. 🫠🌊

Whilst the guys at C4W Ltd have done a fab job with our shiny new PVC door, even that wasn't quite prepared for the volume of water Mother Nature decided to throw at us this morning!

Cue emergency Croft operations: buckets, towels, wellies, questionable language and all hands-on deck. 😂

In all seriousness, these are the days that remind us just how lucky we are to be surrounded by such an amazing team. When something goes spectacularly sideways at Redberth Croft, there are always people who simply muck in, find a solution and somehow keep everyone laughing in the process. 💚

Team mobilised ✅
House… slightly aquatic ❌
Sense of humour… just about intact ✅😂

Never a dull day at Redberth Croft. But we wouldn't have it any other way. Although we absolutely would have preferred a dry house. 🤣🌧️

🐴🐑 Martletwy Show...what a day! 🐑🐴

A HUGE thank you to the team behind Martletwy Show for having us, and an equally huge shout-out to our incredible core team who flew the flag! 💚

Despite a few of our senior leadership team being unable to make it, Redberth Croft's presence was most certainly felt! Our team were inundated with people wanting to say hello, meet our sheep and Shetlands, get up close and personal with the furry members of the Croft Crew, and find out more about what we do.

Although it was a bit of a change for us; in previous years we've often attended to compete; this time, we were there simply to engage, share what we do and give people the opportunity to get up close and personal to some of the animals who underpin our work.

And you know what? That felt worth far more than any ribbon or cup. 🏆💚

Every conversation matters. Every person who stopped to say hello, picked up a leaflet, followed us on socials or popped something in the donation bucket has helped us spread the word and, importantly, helped us continue doing what we do.

As a non-profit community farm, anything we receive goes straight back into Redberth Croft — supporting vulnerable animals and helping provide more opportunities for the people and communities to get involved and be valued.

Given the demand for our increasingly popular Redberth Croft Road Trips, we're now exploring more opportunities to take the Croft Crew out into the community! 🚜🐴🐑

So, if you're organising a community event, show, school or group activity, corporate day or even a suitable private gathering and think a visit from us could add something a little different, please get in touch on [email protected] .

Essentially, rather than paying a commercial org for animal experiences, you're helping a local non-profit put that money straight back into creating more community impact and caring for the animals and indeed the people who make it possible. Even better is the fact that every animal has its own unique story to tell and is a testament to what can be done when beings are understood and empowered to reach their potential 💚

🐝 Budding beekeepers in the making! 🌻🌱

Some of our Redberth Croft team headed out to Scolton Manor with our young ambassadors for a fantastic introduction to the world of beekeeping, thanks to the Pembrokeshire Beekeepers' Association.

For us, agriculture isn't just about the animals we care for or the food we produce. It's about understanding the whole ecosystem around us and the role we can all play in protecting it.

Bees and other pollinators are an essential part of that picture. From supporting biodiversity and healthy habitats to pollinating crops and helping sustain our food systems, what happens to our pollinators ultimately affects all of us.

It was brilliant to see our young ambassadors have the opportunity to learn more about how a hive works, the importance of protecting our pollinators and how beekeeping can sit alongside farming, conservation and more sustainable land management.

Needless to say, we may now have a few budding Redberth beekeepers in the making... 🐝

Although our Board are currently being the voice of reason and reminding us that perhaps we should finish some of our existing projects before acquiring several thousand new residents! 😂

So, for now at least, the Redberth Croft apiary remains firmly on the future-project list.

But that's exactly why opportunities like this matter. We want all our team and indeed the next generation to experience as many different aspects of agriculture, biodiversity and the rural environment as possible. You never know which experience might spark an interest, develop into a skill or even inspire a future career.

Protect the pollinators, support biodiversity and keep learning. 🐝🌍🌱

A huge thank you to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society committee for putting on another fantastic show!

We headed along this year just as spectators with some of our younger Redberth Croft members, particularly to support the Retraining of Racehorses classes. It was brilliant to see the Novice RoR class so strongly represented and so many former racehorses being given the opportunity to showcase just how versatile they can be beyond racing.

One of the unexpected highlights of the day was meeting so many people who already knew about Redberth Croft, followed our journey and, even better, were genuine advocates for the work we are doing. Those conversations meant a huge amount to us and were a lovely reminder of just how far the Croft has come.

As we move into our next chapter, we’re incredibly excited about what lies ahead. From equine welfare, rehabilitation and education through to sheep, farming, rural skills, agriculture and creating opportunities for people to get involved in the countryside, there is a lot happening at Redberth Croft!

We’re still a relatively young organisation, but our ambitions for the future are big. We want to keep building bridges between people, animals, agriculture and the wider rural community, while creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise have an obvious route into these environments.

Thank you to everyone who we chatted to, shared their experiences with us or simply told us they were following what we’re doing alongside support for our Rose Appeal. And congratulations to the Pembrokeshire County Show team on a brilliant event.

We’re looking forward to seeing where this next chapter takes us!

A huge thank you to the brilliant team at Glyn Edwards Office Equipment based in Milford Haven at very short notice and helping us get these flyers printed for The Rose Appeal!

We were very much on a “lastminute.com” mission, and their support meant we could get Rose’s story out into the community and give our fundraising campaign another much-needed boost.

As a small, volunteer-led community farm, these acts of kindness from local businesses genuinely make a difference. Every flyer shared, every donation and every person who helps spread Rose’s story takes us a little closer to giving this lovely young mare the comfortable future she deserves.

🐑💙 A HUGE THANK YOU FROM OUR FLEDGLING SHEPHERDS AND SHEPHERDESS! 💙🐑

This morning marked another important first for Redberth Croft as our starter flock of Valais Blacknose Sheep received their first Bluetongue vaccinations — administered by our very own shepherdess-in-training, Maisie Brown! 💉🐑

We owe an enormous thank you to Tenby Vets for helping us arrange everything and to the incredibly generous Phil & Mandy Proctor of Marsh Road Garage, Tenby, who donated the vaccine for our flock. ❤️

For a small, non-profit community farm taking its first steps into sheep farming, gestures like this genuinely mean a huge amount.

Bluetongue is unfortunately a very real and growing concern for livestock keepers. The latest Government figures report 424 cases of BTV-3 across the UK this season, including 12 in Wales, so protecting our little flock is something we take extremely seriously.

And today's story didn't end at Redberth! 😂

Once opened, the vaccine had a limited window in which it could be used and, with vaccines supplied in quantities far greater than our little starter flock requires, we were determined that not a single dose should go to waste.

Cue Steven from Cenarth arriving by MOTORBIKE 🏍️🐑 to collect the remaining vaccine for his own flock!

We absolutely love this. ❤️

We're newcomers to the sheep-farming world and still have a huge amount to learn, but the support we've received from the wider farming community has been quite incredible. People sharing knowledge, equipment, experience, contacts and — in this case — precious vaccine.

It is exactly what rural community should be about: farmers helping farmers, neighbours helping neighbours and everyone doing their bit to protect livestock.

Our little VBN gang will be back for the next stage of their vaccination programme in a few weeks' time, under the guidance of our vets, and Maisie has another proper shepherding job under her belt. 🐑💪

Thank you Tenby Vets, Phil & Mandy, Steven and everyone who continues to help us find our feet on this new farming adventure.
