What a team. What a community. And what a night. ❤️

We are incredibly proud of the community we are building at Redberth Croft.

In only our second year of operation as a CIC, we were shortlisted in the One to Watch category at the Social Business Wales Awards — an achievement that feels even more special knowing that there are more than 3,000 incredible social enterprises doing amazing things across Wales.

We didn’t scoop the overall award, but being shortlisted and recognised alongside such inspiring organisations was a huge achievement in itself.

And perhaps the best bit? Having a whole table filled with members of our Croft family there to represent us. A very rare opportunity to ditch the wellies for dresses… although Daisy and Amélie apparently decided Converse were still entirely acceptable formalwear. 😂👗👟 We’ll call it ‘Croft chic’.

There are people and organisations who have helped us get here. UnLtd took a chance and invested in our founder as a social entrepreneur in the early stages, and the support and advice we’ve received from Cwmpas has helped us turn ideas, lived experience and a slightly unconventional little farm into something sustainable and real.

But tonight isn’t really about awards, founders or organisations.

It’s about our volunteers.

The people who turn up in the rain. Who muck out stables, fix fences, build things, grow things, care for animals, support our members, make tea, solve problems and somehow keep going when the plan inevitably goes completely out of the window.

People who give their time, skills and lived experience freely because they believe in what we are trying to create.

Redberth Croft isn’t one person. It isn’t one project. And it certainly isn’t just a farm.

It is a community built by people who have found somewhere to belong; and then helped create that same sense of belonging for the next person who walks through the gate.

So this recognition belongs to every single member of our volunteer team, our participants, supporters, partners and wider Croft family.

To be called “One to Watch” in year two?

We’ll take that. ❤️

And we’re only just getting started. 🌱🐴

🐭 Chief Rodent Controller: 1 | Intended use of Haybar: 0 😂

It appears our resident Chief Rodent Controller ‘Harley-QUEEN’ has discovered an entirely new use for our wonderful Hay Bars…

Why eat the hay when you can simply become one with it? 🐱🌾

We’re not entirely convinced this is what the manufacturers had in mind, but quality control is clearly being taken VERY seriously here at Redberth Croft. 😂

🌱 Another incredibly busy week at the Croft… and another reminder of just how much can happen when people pull together! 💚

Despite more than a few challenges being thrown our way lately, the team have continued to go above and beyond and our market garden is really starting to come to life! 🥬🌱

A HUGE shout-out to Jane Christine Bain (supervised of course by our former resident Hunter), who has been leading the charge and has made incredible progress. Alongside her incredible work with us Jane also volunteers with esteam and local business Underwood Organic Farm. Our friends at Underwood in Lamphey have very kindly supported the project with a donation of plants recently.

We now have spring greens, beetroot, coriander, fennel, spinach and chard settling into their new home; alongside the peppers and other produce already growing away in the polytunnel! 🌶️🥬

What we particularly love about this project is that it really has been a Croft-wide team effort. Our carpentry crew built the raised beds, Jane has taken the lead on developing and planting them, and our wider team of volunteers and members doing ground clearance and keeping the supply of compost and wood chip we created here. Alongside help with watering, maintenance and all those little jobs that keep things ticking over when Jane can't be here.

That's exactly what we're trying to build at Redberth Croft: projects where people can bring their own skills, interests and experience, learn from one another and see the tangible results of what they've achieved together. 💚

And we're only just getting started! If any local growers, garden centres, businesses or individuals have surplus plants, seeds, compost, soil, tools or materials they'd be willing to donate, we'd be hugely grateful. Likewise, if you'd rather donate a little time and fancy getting your hands dirty, we'd love to hear from you. 🌱

We're really keen to share this journey with more people and develop regular sessions around the market garden as it grows. If you'd like to get involved, volunteer, learn some new skills or simply find out more, drop us a message.

It takes a village… or, in our case, a slightly chaotic little community farm full of some pretty wonderful people. 😂🌱💚

🌟 We’ve got a national finalist! 🌟

We are incredibly proud of our very own Amelie Houghton, who has been named a finalist for the Young Volunteering Award at the WCVA Welsh Charity Awards 2026! 💜

To see Amélie’s contribution to Redberth Croft recognised at a national level is absolutely brilliant — and thoroughly deserved. She gives so much of her time, energy and care to the Croft, our animals and our wider community.

Thank you for everything you do, Amélie. We’re very lucky to have you as part of Team Redberth. 🐴💜

And, of course, we’re looking forward to having an official excuse to swap the wellies for something slightly smarter in October! 😂👢➡️👠

🐑🚨 ANOTHER REDBERTH RESCUE MISSION: COMPLETE! 🚨🐑

Never a dull moment at the Croft… and this time it was Jack & Ben answering the call! 💚

Meet the two newest (and incredibly friendly!) members of the Croft Crew. 🐑🐑

These lovely boys are wethers — for the non-sheep people amongst us, that means they've already had their, ahem… boy bits taken care of 😂✂️ and despite everything changing around them, they've arrived bright, inquisitive and VERY keen to make friends.

A massive thank you to Jack and Ben for dropping everything and helping get another Redberth rescue mission safely over the line. These things often happen with very little notice, and having people we can call on who simply say right, what needs doing?” makes all the difference. 💚

For now, the boys are safely settled into isolation away from our existing flock while we work through the sensible next steps as opposed to being destined for the freezer due to loss of grazing. We'll be completing the formal transfer of ownership and arranging the appropriate veterinary checks before they're introduced to the rest of Croft life.

Then, all being well, we'll see what the future holds for them. 🥰🐑

They're already proving to be ridiculously friendly, so we have a feeling these two might become rather popular around here Welcome to Redberth Croft, boys. You've landed on your feet. 💚**

Help Give Rose the Future She Deserves

Every Life Deserves a Second Chance

At Redberth Croft CIC, we believe that everyone; and every animal, deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they've faced.

Our community farm in Pembrokeshire is built on lived experience. Every day rescued animals work alongside veterans, neurodivergent individuals, unpaid carers, young people and others facing barriers to employment, education or wellbeing or at risk of social exclusion. Together, they create an environment where confidence is rebuilt, skills are developed and lives are changed.

Today, we're asking for your help to give one of those remarkable animals the second chance she deserves.

Meet Rose

Affectionately known as Rose although officially unnamed , this beautiful four-year-old Thoroughbred mare has already touched the hearts of everyone she's met. She is by the outstanding Godolphin stallion Iffraaj (GB) out of Labise (IRE); a pedigree that once promised a bright future on the racecourse.

But that future never came. Rose never raced. She was never officially named.

Instead, she has lived with a bone deformity known as a club foot, leaving her intermittently lame and preventing her from fulfilling the potential she was born with.

Despite this, she remains one of the sweetest, kindest horses we've ever known. She has an incredible ability to quietly connect with people who are struggling, offering calmness, reassurance and companionship without asking for anything in return.

We believe she deserves the same kindness she gives so freely to others.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Following specialist assessment by Cotts Equine Hospital, Rose has been diagnosed with a Type 1 flexural limb deformity (club foot).

Our veterinary surgeon has recommended an Inferior Check Ligament Desmotomy, a procedure that offers a very encouraging prognosis.

In an incredibly generous gesture, Richard Coomer and the team at Cotts Equine Hospital have agreed to perform Rose's surgery at a substantially reduced charitable rate. Their generosity has brought life-changing treatment within reach; but we still need your help to make it happen.

Where Your Donation Will Go

We're aiming to raise £3,000 to cover every stage of Rose's recovery.

💊 Medication and post-operative veterinary care

👨‍⚕️ Follow-up examinations and monitoring

🦶 Specialist corrective farriery - carefully reshaping her hoof over the coming months to give her the best possible long-term outcome.

🌿 Rehabilitation - supporting Rose through her recovery until she can enjoy a comfortable, active life.

Any funds raised beyond Rose's treatment costs will be used to support the veterinary care and rehabilitation of other rescued animals at Redberth Croft CIC.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of Rose's journey is that, despite being four years old, she has never officially been named. 🐴💙 NOW THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL A BUCAS HAUL! 💙🐴

A HUGE thank you to the absolutely incredible team at Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary in Northern Ireland! 🇮🇪💚

Through a completely chance online conversation with Charlie, they heard about what we're trying to do for Rose and the other vulnerable Thoroughbreds who find their way to us.

And then THIS arrived… 🤯

Not one… not two… but THREE Bucas Power Turnout High Necks, alongside Bucas Recuptex/Reputex therapy items and fly masks to support our Thoroughbred rehabilitation work! 🥹

Anyone who knows us knows we're already huge fans of the Bucas Power Turnouts. Our Thoroughbreds can be tricky customers when temperatures fluctuate, and their prominent withers can make finding rugs that don't rub them raw or destroy their manes an ongoing battle. So this haul is going to be genuinely invaluable. 🙌

And naturally, our OGs Cav & Ozzy were only too happy to undertake the very serious task of modelling the new wardrobe… although Cav’s review appears to be: 😛😂

What makes this gift even more special is where it has come from. We've since been learning more about Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary and are genuinely in awe of what they've built — more than 30 years of rescue, rehabilitation and sanctuary work in Northern Ireland, currently caring for more than 150 animals every day.

As a much younger organisation, it's incredibly inspiring to connect with people who have been doing this work for decades — and even more special that Rose's story has created that connection from across the Irish Sea. 🌹💚
