28 AUGUST 2021... THE LAST BRITISH TROOPS LEFT AFGHANISTAN

Five years ago today, the final British military flight left Kabul.

It brought to an end almost 20 years of British military involvement in Afghanistan.

Over 12 months of my own youth were spent there.

Two tours. Different times, different roles, but a country and experiences that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Like thousands of others, I went because that was the job. We served alongside some incredible people, made friendships that will last a lifetime and saw things that are difficult to explain to anyone who wasn't there.

More than 150,000 British personnel served in Afghanistan.

457 British personnel lost their lives.
Whatever your opinion of the war, the politics or the way it eventually ended, those numbers represent real people.

Sons. Daughters. Fathers. Mothers. Brothers. Sisters. Friends.

For many veterans, Afghanistan isn't something in a history book.

It was part of our youth.

And for 457 of our own, it was where their future ended.

Today we remember them.

Lest We Forget. ❤️🌹

The poppy team is back at it with an even bigger and bolder project this year and need help.

Any money donated goes towards kit and materials to make more wonderful tributes to those we remember.

This year has a massive youth project and hopefully some very large memorials to watch over our town.

Any businesses or individuals or groups can onec again donate in your own name or the name of a loved one just drop a message to the poppy appeals page.

We are still so grateful to all those who donated last year.
This year we have BIG plans if you to donate we always do a poster with doners names and give them big big shoutouts.

After four amazing years as Chairman of the Royal British Legion Tenby Branch, I will be standing down at this year's AGM.

It has been a real privilege to serve the branch, and I'm incredibly proud of everything we've achieved together. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.

I'll remain an active committee member and continue as Poppy Appeal Organiser, supporting the branch and our Armed Forces community.

I wish my successor every success in the role.

If you're interested in joining the branch or would like to be considered for the role of Chairman, please email [email protected].
