💂‍♂️🇬🇧 Tenby’s Big “Tommy” Sleep Out 2026 🇬🇧💂‍♂️
During March, communities all around Britain take part in the Great Tommy Sleep Out to raise funds and awareness for homeless veterans. This year, Tenby proudly played its part on 2nd and 3rd March at St Mary’s Church. The Great Tommy Sleep Out is a nationwide March campaign organised by Royal British Veterans Enterprise where people sleep outdoors to raise funds and awareness for veterans facing homelessness. It supports accommodation, employment and welfare services for former service personnel across Britain.

Organised by Tenby Royal British Legion Chairman Shane Roberts and branch member Gareth Lloyd-Jones, this year’s event went even further than before. “The last two years have been 24 hours, but this year we have upped the ante to 48 hours sleeping outside. People’s generosity is unbeatable in Tenby not just for donations, but support and engagement as a whole,” said Shane.

Shane was joined by the Mayor, Cllr Dai Morgan (also a member of Tenby Royal British Legion), Rev’d Steve Brett (TRBL Chaplain), and fellow member Dylan Sutton. Also taking part were, Chris Didcote, Craig Sutton and Byron Jenkins.

The Mayor said: “Even though it was wet and cold for the first 24 hours, it didn’t dampen spirits. I find that what we have is too often taken for granted — including our freedom — which men and women fight for us and then sadly can become forgotten about.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, donated, supported and engaged with this important cause. Funds are still being counted, but the current total stands at an incredible £2,100 👏
Tenby once again showing that its community spirit is second to none.

Our Branch Chair, Shane Roberts , has today received a District Award in recognition of his outstanding work rebuilding and supporting the Pembrokeshire Hub, which brings together 11 Royal British Legion branches across the county.

In addition to this, Shane also serves as County Training Officer, alongside carrying out multiple other roles within the Royal British Legion, giving countless hours to support members, branches, and the wider Legion community.

On top of his Legion commitments, Shane continues to volunteer with the cadets and supports several veteran support charities, always putting others first.

All of this work is carried out voluntarily, and we would like to thank Shane for his dedication, leadership, and for keeping us going. His commitment truly makes a difference, and this award is very well deserved.

Our Statement in response to President Trump's comments:

The service and sacrifice of British personnel in Afghanistan cannot be called into question, and we condemn any comments that undermine their extraordinary contribution. 457 British personnel lost their lives in Afghanistan and thousands more and their families now live with the lifelong physical and mental impact from service in that conflict.

The dedication and sacrifices of the men and women in the British Armed Forces from the UK, Commonwealth, and beyond, to protect our freedoms and support our allies deserves our deep and ongoing respect and gratitude.

Our nation’s support for our Armed Forces is never in doubt. The Royal British Legion through our ongoing work to recognise, remember, and support the Armed Forces community, ensures that their unique contribution is not forgotten. This recognition is shared across communities, cultures, and faiths.
