Our Story
The Aim... Our aim at The Leegate Centre is to develop the centre and make it the heart of the Leegomery community once again, by providing a safe place for families and individuals, as well as promoting and offering groups, courses, developing skills, support, guidance and advise to fulfil the needs of the community. The History... The building is over 400 years, which originally began as a farm house a community centre back in the 70's. Over the years, the building has had great success with a thriving café and was one of the best community centres in the past. However, through time the centre has lost its purpose and failed, by not offering support to the local people of Leegomery, closing the community café and had fallen in to disrepair. The Change... Since the takeover on the 1st of April by not-for-profit CIC, the building has under gone a renovation project to update, renew & bring life back into the centre, including decorating the Main Hall & Nursery, all conference rooms, new support/counselling rooms, a community social group room, the new Woodlands Café with reception area and a new IT systems for the computer suite, including a community computer. The Next Step... We still have a lot more to achieve over the next 6 to 12 months, by raising money and applying for grants for internal CCTV to allow the centre to become more of a safe place for users, group leaders and the public. We are looking to create several new support groups to tackle Isolation in the local area, Mental Health concerns including a weekly coffee morning with pet rehabilitation and Mindfulness. A weekly Support Drop-In services with Thrive have just begun, have been very successful in recent weeks by offer support with housing, debts, food poverty etc, which we look to introduce other drop in services over the next year. We will also be putting on group activities, events and entertainment for all ages and people with different backgrounds, whilst creating a new garden space for the nursery. We aim to work with all local support organisations, businesses and key services, such as our PCSO team.
