💛 National Volunteers’ Week 💛

This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating our incredible volunteers with a special thank you party at Sunflower Community Café.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Whether they’re serving customers with a smile, supporting community events, helping behind the scenes, or simply offering a listening ear, their kindness, dedication, and enthusiasm make a real difference every day.

We are so grateful for the time, energy, and compassion each volunteer brings to our community. Thank you for helping us create a welcoming, inclusive space where everyone feels valued and connected.

Happy National Volunteers’ Week to all of our amazing volunteers – we couldn’t do it without you! 🌻✨

🤩Another Volunteer who we are so proud to have on our Team here! Thank you for all your support and guidance to Nikki and all of our Trustees.

Celebrating our local heroes this National Volunteers Week—Meet Nikki and read their story.

I volunteer as a Trustee for Telford & Wrekin CVS because I genuinely believe in the organisations they support and the difference they make locally. Through my full-time work with the Learning Community Trust, I see first hand how many children and families rely on CVS supported services — often at times when they need help the most.
Becoming a trustee felt like a natural way to give something back to the local community and to support the voluntary sector that does so much behind the scenes. It’s a privilege to work alongside people who are passionate about strengthening communities, supporting volunteers and ensuring that vital services continue to thrive across Telford & Wrekin.

🌟 Celebrating local heroes this National Volunteers’ Week 🌟

This week, Telford & Wrekin Council is celebrating National Volunteers’ Week by sharing inspiring stories from across the Borough.

Today, we shine a light on Anne, a volunteer at the Sunflower Café in Brookside Community Centre, who shows how volunteering not only supports the community but offers so much more in return.

For the past three years, Anne has been volunteering with the Telford and Wrekin CVS, supporting the café while building confidence and learning new skills, as well as making friends. What started as a way to gain experience has grown into a rewarding role where she enjoys serving customers and baking.

Anne has developed valuable cooking skills and built strong connections in her community. A highlight was the Madeley Christmas Light Switch On, where the team prepared homemade treats which were all sold out by the end of the night, a real reflection of their hard work and baking skills!

💬 Anne says: “I’d highly recommend volunteering, it’s a great way to meet people and learn new skills and feel you are making a real difference. You might find you gain just as much as you give.”

This week we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who make such a difference to our community every single day.

A special thank you to Olivia, one of our wonderful volunteers at Sunflower Community Café, for sharing her experience with us:

"Learning new recipes that I have never tried before. Other members of staff are so nice and funny to interact with and have a range of different characteristics even the customers and the kids are an enjoying bunch to interact with"

We're so grateful for Olivia and all of our volunteers who give their time, energy, and kindness to support others. Your dedication helps make Sunflower Community Café a welcoming place for everyone.

Thank you for everything you do. 🌻

Today for Mental Health Awareness Week, the team at CVS proudly wore green to help raise awareness and show support for positive mental health 💚

Across our services, we have also created action boards filled with helpful tips, ideas, and small everyday steps that can support and improve mental wellbeing. It’s been a lovely way to encourage conversations, reflection, and support amongst staff and the wider community.

A big thank you to our wonderful manager Lucie for organising a delicious carrot cake from the Sunflower Brookside Community Cafe for everyone to enjoy 🍰🌻

Mental health matters every day, and sometimes the smallest acts of kindness, connection, and support can make the biggest difference.

What IS Pride in Place?

And what does it MEAN for Brookside?

🌱 This is NOT a quick project or a one‑off survey.

Pride in Place is about real, long‑term investment in Brookside over the next 10 years including a share of £30 million and making sure local people have a say in how that money is used.

🏘️ Pride in Place means:

👂 Listening to people who live and work in Brookside
💬 Valuing YOUR local knowledge and experience
🤝 Making decisions together, not behind closed doors

🔴 This is where YOU come in

We are asking Brookside residents, or people who work in Brookside, to nominate people they trust to help represent the community.

You don’t need qualifications, professional experience, or a title.

You just need to:

✅ Know Brookside
✅ Care about everyday life here
✅ Want to see positive change

If there’s someone who lives or works in Brookside that you respect and trust, nominate them (with their permission).
Or if that person is you, put yourself forward 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

🗣️ This is how real change starts: local voices leading the way.
👉 Nominate someone today
