💖 A massive thank you for our 50p Friday!

We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who joined in for our 50p Friday—together, you have raised £530 so far! 🥳🐾

Every single 50p adds up, and we cherish every penny. To give you an idea of the mountain a small rescue like Next Steps Cat Rescue Shropshire faces, our vet bills last month alone were around £6,000. Between ongoing routine care, emergencies, and unexpected complications like Mama Marble's recent urgent vet trip, those costs rack up so quickly.

We still have a long way to go to cover our monthly medical costs, which is why that £530 is such a vital lifeline for us right now. It keeps us going!

Next Steps family, we are coming to you today with a very real and incredibly urgent plea for support. 💔 It is our weekly 50p Friday, but with the end of the month just days away, we are facing a massive financial mountain. Our rescue pot is running dangerously low, and we desperately need to build it back up to cover a huge wave of veterinary costs.

Before you head off to enjoy the long Bank Holiday weekend, please look at why our rescue piggy bank has taken such a massive hammering this week. We have had a non-stop, incredibly costly wave of critical care:

🐖 Mama Marble's Emergency Care: We had Mama Marble down at the vets for a long, high-stakes day, requiring crucial X-rays and vital medication to help her safely deliver her final two babies.

🐖 A Five-Cat Cash Out: We had a massive wave of routine operations—including paying for FIVE cats to be neutered on the exact same day!

🐖 Frontline TNR Costs: We’ve been funding vital community work, doing even more critical Trap-Neuter-Return work to stop the cycle of stray kittens.

🐖 New Families to Feed: We welcomed even more vulnerable mouths to our pens, including our new "Girl Power" co-parenting family who need extensive food and care!

All of this life-saving work means our vet bills are due at the end of the month, and they are going to be exceptionally high. 📉

We quite literally cannot pay these bills or keep taking in these desperate souls without your financial backing. With even more cats and kittens in need already booked to arrive next week, our resources are being stretched to the absolute limit. We need our community to rally around us right now.

Amongst the financial stress, the only thing keeping us going are the beautiful happy endings your money buys. This week has seen an absolute adoption boom: Lightning, Raine, and Misty have officially left, Yuzu, Mango, and Newton are leaving later today, and Hector has officially been adopted by his amazing foster mum, Nicole! 🏡💖

Six cats are safe and loved because of this rescue—but to keep saving the next ones down the line, we have to clear this debt.

🚨🚨 A DRAMATIC ARRIVAL FOR MAMA MARBLE! 🚨🚨

Yesterday was an absolute rollercoaster of a day here at Next Steps, and we are overjoyed to share that our gorgeous pregnant mama, Marble, is officially a mum to FIVE beautiful, healthy babies! 🐾🍼

Marble went into labor yesterday, but after some time, it became clear she was struggling to birth her first kitten. Her incredible foster mum, Abi, kept a watchful eye and was on the phone to us constantly, while we relayed updates directly to our vets to monitor her every move. In the end, the vets advised bringing her straight into the clinic in case she needed medication to help her contractions progress.

But Marble had her own ideas! Literally as we pulled up outside the vets and walked through the door, she gave birth to her very first kitten! 😲

The amazing veterinary team whisked her straight out the back to get her settled. Not long after, kitten number two arrived! Since they were now coming safely one by one, the team decided the best and safest thing to do was keep her there so they could step in immediately if she hit another bump.

Before long, kitten number three made its entrance. Marble then decided she needed a well-deserved power nap and a snack to nurse her first three bundles! But the vets knew her job wasn't quite done. An X-ray revealed two more tucked away inside!

By this point, poor Marble had become very tired and her contractions weren't quite strong enough to finish the job. Thankfully, she was in the absolute best hands—the vets gave her a dose of oxytocin to give her a helping hand to deliver the final two.

As the day was drawing to a close, those last two kittens were finally, safely born! ❤️

The whole family is now safely back tucked up in her foster home, relaxing in the quiet, familiar surroundings she has gotten used to. All five babies are a fantastic weight and feeding brilliantly, and Mama Marble is doing wonderfully.

A huge congratulations and an even bigger THANK YOU to her foster mum, Abi. Abi has done a magnificent job caring for Marble over the last few weeks and kept the closest eye on her exactly when she needed it the most. You are an absolute superstar, Abi! 🌟

We also want to extend a massive thank you to the incredible team at The Market Town Vet - Shrewsbury for taking such swift, kind, and expert care of our girl. 🩺❤️

💖 BIG MILESTONE FOR SUE! 💖

Our gorgeous girl Sue has some huge news! She has officially hit her target weight and is finally heavy enough to be booked in for her spay! 🥳🎉

She is booked in for next Thursday, and while she is under anesthesia, the vets will also be doing an X-ray on her little dipped chest. We know many of you have been following her journey, and these scans will finally give us a clear picture of what is going on structurally so we can make the best plans for her future.

The absolute best part? Sue doesn't let her chest hold her back for a second. She is absolutely thriving, growing beautifully, and living her best life playing and causing mischief alongside her lovely sister, Mel! 👯‍♀️🐾

We will be keeping everything crossed for our brave little lady next Thursday as she takes this next big step toward her forever future!

We have some very special new arrivals here at Next Steps Cat Rescue Shropshire, and we just had to share their heartwarming story with you all!

We recently took in a big, beautiful family from a kind lady who kept them safe until we had space. Get ready for this... we have TWO gorgeous mama cats who are co-rearing their kittens together! 🍼🐈‍⬛

Take a look at this incredible blended family:

Mama 1: Looking after her 9-week-old single kitten (the sibling has already found a home!).

Mama 2: Looking after her three 4-week-old tiny bundles.

Both mamas are feeling a little shy right now because everything is so new to them, but their bond is absolutely magical. They get along incredibly well and are completely sharing the workload—grooming, nursing, and watching over all four kittens as a team. 🥰

🏷️ WE NEED A THEME! 🏷️As many of our lovely followers know, we like to name our rescue families using a specific theme to help us keep track of everyone. But for this ultimate "Girl Power" team, we are completely stumped because they are just too special!

We need a theme that includes TWO adult female names and FOUR kitten names.

A quick update for you all -

We have had 5 of our foster kittens neutered and microchipped today…. That’s right, 5!!

Seamus and Murphy, Eowyn and Eomer, and Stitch have all been to the vets today and have all done brilliantly! Stitch has also had a good clean of the wound on his foot to help it to heal.

Neutering and microchipping are such a vital part of both cat rescue and cat ownership in general, so we are very grateful to both Southwater Veterinary Group and The Market Town Vet - Shrewsbury for always fitting us in and for looking after our cats and kittens so well.
