One year ago, on 27th May 2025, we opened the doors to The Makery with a simple hope… to create a welcoming space filled with creativity, community, recycled materials, conversation, ideas and opportunity.
What a year it has been.
The Makery has become an extension of TAAG Arts & Community Centre, a creative community space where much of the outreach work within the town now takes place. From lanterns to dragons, carnival pieces to Pride artwork and displays, school workshops to carers groups, recycled art installations to large scale sculpture builds, The Makery has become a busy, ever-changing hub of creativity and connection.
Part studio, part shared resource centre, part workshop space and part community hub, it is where large sculptures are imagined and built, where recycled and donated materials are given a second life, where vision board workshops, holiday activities, outreach sessions, volunteering, work experience and community projects all come together under one roof.
Over the past 12 months, The Makery has become home to so many wonderful things. From being Trail Recycled Art in the Landscape HQ and a working recycled sculpture studio, to hosting community groups, carers’ sessions, youth creativity, holiday workshops, outreach projects, volunteering, work experience placements, free create days and countless cups of tea and chats along the way.
Since opening, we’ve welcomed hundreds upon hundreds of people through the doors.and worked collaboratively and led so many enriching projects within the community.
Our holiday workshops and open create sessions and welcomed over 140 people in the first four days of opening alone, with hundreds more attending throughout the year.
None of this would have been possible without the kindness, encouragement and support from our amazing community, volunteers, donors, artists, groups, supporters and everyone who has stepped through the door and believed in what this space could become.
As we head into year two, we are continuing to fundraise to help keep creativity accessible, inclusive and alive within our community. Donations help us continue offering free and low-cost creative opportunities, maintain the space, support workshops, provide materials and keep the doors open for everyone who may need a creative place to belong.

Thank you for being part of our story so far. Here’s to the next chapter.
