Did you know....?

Our Lookout at Eastcliff is open 7 days a week, have you ever popped in to see what we do? Our friendly, knowledgeable Watch Keepers will give you a warm welcome and a guided tour, we pack a lot in that tiny space! Providing of course they are not super busy dealing with an incident.

If you enjoy it you may even like to make a donation, there is a box for cash and we can even take card payments on our shiny new sum up machine.

So if you are passing drop in, bring your family and children we would love to see you...

Thank you to our wonderful community for your donations of paperback books, we always get such good quality and they sell really well. We have a lot in our tiny basement at the moment so no more needed for a while!

However, we would politely ask that you do not bring us anymore hard back books, we cannot sell these and do not have enough room to store them!

Our C watch this afternoon nearly had a surprise visitor, don’t think we have ever seen one of these before that close. Bet the people on the beach had a surprise as well, at least he landed safely, some skill shown there.

I don’t think we logged it as not sure we have a designated code for a paraglider but will be checked 😂.

Paddle safer course on the beach in front of us this morning. Tony who was running the course asked if we could respond to a CH65 call from him on the beach as part of the course, obviously not a problem, pleased to assist Tony. Approximately 20 participants took part in the exercise all learning valuable tips on how to stay safe when on paddle boards and kayaks. These courses save lives.

Volunteers Week 1st to 7th June 2026

"Celebrating Millions Who Give Back"

Its the last day of Volunteers week so we have just managed to get in on the final day with a story from one of our Watch Keepers and Trainers, Pam, below she tells us why she became a volunteer Watch Keeper!

I joined the NCI in 2007 after reading a three line entry in the local paper asking for volunteers. There were just 25 watchkeepers at the time. My reason for joining was that my son had completed the Fastnet Race safely in 2005 and the sea going and safety services made sure this happened. I wanted to make sure every other son achieved their wishes safely at sea. I knew nothing about sailing but with now nearly 19 years experience with NCI I have learnt so much and hopefully, over those years, as a trainer, I have passed that on to others. I've loved every minute.

We now have around 60 Watch Keepers volunteering to keep our 'Eyes Along the Coast', 7 days a week, 365 days a year during daylight hours, looking out for the safety of all our coastal users.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our cake, Book and Jigsaw Sale yesterday, you all helped us raise over £300 for our ongoing work 'Eyes Along The Coast'!
