John Glen MP for Salisbury, recently visited the Church of St Michael and All Angels in Teffont Evias to back a major £500,000 restoration appeal.

Led by volunteer group The Friends of Evias Church, the project covers around 60 work streams to repair the historic roof, tower, spire, and main ceiling. Launched on 30 May 2026, the appeal has already raised over £180,000, with extensive scoping surveys currently underway. During his visit, Mr Glen praised the community's progress, discussed grant options, and encouraged fundraising momentum.

Dating back to 1298, the church holds centuries of English history, including Civil War links and famous effigies of the Ley family. The community is working hard to preserve this local treasure for generations to come—and visitors are warmly invited to drop in and explore its story via a self-guided tour!

Tucked away in a steep-sided Wiltshire valley lies our Teffont Evias Church, a Grade II* listed marvel built from local Chilmark stone.
For 900 years, this striking building has served as both a village parish and the private manor chapel.

Inside, you’ll discover a 13th-century font, 17th-century tomb effigies of the Ley family, and the extraordinary 125-foot spire added in the 1830s by Neo-Classical architect Charles Fowler.

Don't miss the 1863 marble intarsia relief of musical angels by Baron Henri de Triqueti—the same artist commissioned by Queen Victoria for the Albert Memorial Chapel!

Ever since the gorgeous new Teffont House opened its doors, journalists from far and wide have been flocking to the village. They’re trying to snap pristine, moody shots of their cocktails in the Orangery or the stunning walled gardens... but our iconic church spire keeps "accidentally" stealing the spotlight in the background!
We can't blame them—a view this historic is hard to ignore. But to keep this picture-perfect Wiltshire skyline intact, our spire urgently needs structural repairs.

Next time you’re visiting the village for a cocktail or a country getaway, take a look up! And if you want to ensure this view stays gorgeous for the next wave of visitors, please consider donating to our Spire Appeal at parishgiving.org.uk/donors/find-your-parish/34a634403

Steeped in history and framed by an idyllic landscape, St Michael & All Angels Church is a timeless setting for a marriage celebration. The church comes alive during a wedding, its historic architecture beautifully complemented by abundant floral arrangements and rows of pews packed with loved ones. For generations, our beautiful church spire has stood tall as a beacon of history, and community pride. It’s more than just stone and mortar—it’s a landmark that welcomes us home.

But time and the elements have taken their toll, and our iconic spire needs urgent structural repairs to ensure it stands proud for generations to come.

We are launching a special restoration fund to protect this piece of our shared heritage. Will you help us preserve history?
