Chalgrave WI

Chalgrave WI We aim to inspire local women. We have been going for over 14 years. One of our members has moved to Northampton and is going to commute!

We plan to offer a blend of educational and fun activities plus trips and outings, with a chance to build skills, make new friends, contribute to the community and have some laughs along the way. We have around 40 not just from Chalgrave but from Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Hockcliffe and Flitwick too. We have enjoyed a variety of talks and workshops and some great outings. We meet on the second

Tuesday of the Month at 8pm at Chalgrave Memorial Hall, Tebworth, Beds LU7 9QQ. Over the past year we have had talks from someone who rescues hedgehogs, an auctioneer who has spent 30 years working in the Woburn Auction Rooms with Charlie Ross from Bargain Hunt. A former policeman who told us about the case of the MI6 worker found dead in a locked suitcase in his apartment. An expert on the World War II History of Bletchley Park and a Volunteer River Warden Safeguarding our rivers
We've heard the story of how codes and quilts helped slaves to flee to safety in Canada. The tale of a Battle of Britain pilot Squadron Leader based on his diaries. We've had a second go at Indoor Kurling, had our annual pub walk, attended the Toddington Scout Ball, a Christmas party at a Turkish restaurant, Afternoon tea and ghost hunt at the Old White Horse, Hockliffe and been to the theatre to hear menopause expert Dr Louise Newson – surprisingly funny! Plus we did an escape room in Milton Keynes,

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

We’ve had a festive time recently - twelve of 12 of us attended a Robbie Williams tribute night at the Fancott Arms. The food was delicious and plentiful (our dogs were eating turkey for a few days afterwards!) service very efficient and the Robbie act was very good. We would definitely return.

We also had a very enjoyable Christmas social with a quiz from quizmaster extraordinaire, Lesley. Plus, silly games including pass the parcel, and a crisp flavour identification game - my guess of ear wax and tequila was incorrect! Everyone brought food along and their favourite tipple.

We have some great things booked for next year. Let us know if you have any ideas for meetings or outings!

To celebrate our upcoming 110 year Birthday next week, we're holding a Talk on The WI at 110 Years – The Story of a Movement for Women on the WI Learning Hub

Since 1915 the WI has inspired women from all over England, Wales and The Islands to be active citizens who care about their local, national and global communities and who want to enhance the lives of women and girls everywhere. As one of the oldest and largest women's organisations the WI has been a change maker on issues that impact on the everyday lives of women and their families and are recognised as a force of nature in our society, and an important women's movement.

This webinar will celebrate WI Day 2025 by looking at the history of the organisation, showcasing its legacy and thinking about how it has transformed the lives of women over the past 110 years.

Starts: Tuesday, 16 September 2025 at 7:30PM
Ends: Tuesday, 16 September 2025 at 8:30PM

This event is open to WI Members and non-members.
