It was a beautiful warm evening for John Aitchison’s bird walk, with evening fabulous light (and not so fabulous midges at some of the stops). John helped us to listen more carefully and pick out various bird song and calls.

Highlights were a fleeting glimpse of a sparrow hawk after we’d heard smaller birds’ alarm call, a redpoll gloriously displaying its raspberry pinkie plumage from an electricity wire, and a drumming snipe over the wetlands. The evening was capped off with a fly-past of a golden eagle (yes, golden and not white-tailed on this occasion!) at the end of the walk. Thanks everyone one who joined the walk, and thanks to John for leading us.

We’ve also made these signs about TI walks and events being free of charge but that donations are welcome to help support ongoing work, recurring costs, etc.

Please wear waterproof footwear and be mindful that the area we will be walking over is uneven ground, bring a walking pole if you want 🙂

A lovely afternoon along the blue route with Innes Manders from Catkin Ecology (and 25 others) talking about wild flowers, grasses and ferns. A great conversation with everyone contributing lots of knowledge about common names, Latin names, uses of flowers … it’s great how descriptive a lot of the names are. Thank you Innes, and everyone who came along
