💚 ADAPTIVE & SENSORY-FRIENDLY CLOTHING – SAVE THIS POST! 💚

We use adaptive clothing for MJ, including the adaptive range from M&S and special kids and it got me thinking about how many families may not realise just how many options are now available.

Adaptive clothing can make such a difference for children, young people AND adults — and thankfully there are now both mainstream retailers and specialist companies offering it.

It can help with:

✨ Sensory differences
✨ Continence needs
✨ Dressing and un******ng
✨ Limited mobility or dexterity
✨ Wheelchair use
✨ Feeding tubes and other medical devices
✨ Access for personal care
✨ Difficulty managing buttons, zips or laces
✨ Children who remove clothing or nappies
✨ Encouraging independent dressing
✨ Making everyday clothing simply more comfortable

So, here are some places worth knowing about 👇

💚 M&S Adaptive Clothing

One we personally use for MJ. M&S have a children’s adaptive range including everyday clothes and schoolwear, with thoughtful adaptations that can make dressing and changing much easier.

💚 WHY SHARE THIS?

Because sometimes you don’t know something exists until another SEND parent tells you about it.

We use adaptive clothing ourselves with MJ, and sometimes what looks like such a small adaptation can make a HUGE difference to comfort, dignity, independence and everyday care.

And I love seeing mainstream retailers such as M&S, George at Asda and Primark beginning to recognise that accessible clothing shouldn’t be an afterthought.

With September approaching and lots of us starting to think about school uniforms and new clothes, this felt like a really useful one to share. 💚

Save it for later or share it with a family who might find it useful.

💛 Today, I want to flood this page with the GOOD stuff. 💛

There’s been a lot of noise over the last few days, and I’ve made a decision about what I want this page to be.

This platform has always been about support, inclusion, understanding and community.

Yes, we talk openly about the difficult parts of raising a child with SEND — the sleepless nights, the battles for support, the appointments, the paperwork, the isolation and the days when everything just feels incredibly hard.

But there is SO much joy too. 💛

The incredible personalities.
The milestones that mean more than anyone could ever understand.
The different ways our children communicate love.
The determination.
The humour.
The honesty.
The way they teach us to see the world differently.

And that is what The Den is about too.

It isn’t just a coffee shop.

It’s somewhere you don’t have to apologise if your child is loud.

Somewhere nobody stares if they are overwhelmed.

Somewhere you can meet another parent who simply gets it.

It’s a place for support, friendship, advice, groups, clinics, activities and sometimes just a cup of coffee with someone who understands. ☕️

I also want to address one thing that has been mentioned repeatedly recently — our opening hours.

Until today, my understanding of the arrangement for operating The Den was that I personally had to be on the premises whenever we were open.

As a parent carer myself, that was never going to be sustainable long term. We have some absolutely wonderful volunteers who are more than capable of running The Den, but if I couldn’t personally be there, there were times when we simply couldn’t open.

That has understandably caused frustration, and believe me, nobody has been more frustrated by it than me.

Following professional advice, I now understand that this restriction is not contained within our agreement and that appropriately authorised members of our organisation can open and run the space without me personally being present.

That potentially changes a LOT for us. 💛

It means The Den can become what it was always supposed to be — a community-led space, not something dependent on one exhausted parent carer being able to physically be there every hour of every day.

So today I’m choosing positivity.

Let’s fill this page with the reason Coffee, Chat & Support exists in the first place.

Tell me something wonderful about your SEND child, young person or family member. 🌈

A milestone.

Something hilarious they’ve done.

Something they’ve taught you.

Something they’re brilliant at.

Or maybe tell us about a moment at The Den that made a difference to you.

Let’s remind ourselves — and everyone watching — exactly why this community matters. 💛

💙 The impact of Coffee, Chat & Support CIC reaches far beyond our café… 💙

People often ask what we do. The answer is simple—we create a community where SEND families feel seen, supported and never alone.

✨ Over 1,000 families supported across Somerset.
🚗 Families travel for up to three hours to access our café, groups and support.
🌍 Our virtual support is reaching families across the UK and internationally.

Here’s just some of what we provide:

☕ Weekly coffee mornings and peer support.
🧠 Adult ADHD Support Groups.
📚 Book Club.
🎨 Craft Club.
🌟 Beyond 18 Group.
💚 Thrive with CP.
🩺 Occupational Therapy Clinic.
⚖️ Free Legal Surgery.
📋 Practical support with EHCPs, advocacy and navigating services.
🌈 The Inclusive Taunton Project, helping businesses become more accessible and welcoming.

These aren’t just services—they’re lifelines. They represent families finding hope, friendships being built, and people finally finding somewhere they belong.

Our Crowdfunder isn’t simply about keeping a café open. It’s about protecting a community that changes lives every single day.

If you believe every family deserves somewhere safe to turn, please donate or share our Crowdfunder.

💙 Every pound. Every share. Every act of kindness helps keep our doors open.

Thank you. 💙

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our Crowdfunder so far. Every single donation, share and message of support means more to us than you could ever know.

Your kindness has reminded us why we do what we do. Your support is helping us fight to keep The Den and Coffee, Chat & Support here for the families who rely on us.

If you haven’t been able to donate, simply sharing our Crowdfunder with your friends and family makes a huge difference too.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us. It truly means the world to us. 💙

Unfortunately, The Den will not be open today or tomorrow, and Craft Club will also not be running this evening.

These closures are completely beyond our control, but they are, unfortunately, necessary while we work through the current situation behind the scenes. We know this is disappointing, and we’re so grateful for your patience, understanding and continued support during what has been an incredibly challenging time.

Please remember that although our doors are temporarily closed, our support doesn’t stop. If you need us, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are still here for you. ❤️

🤞 Fingers crossed we’ll be back open next week, and we can’t wait to welcome you all back.

Could you help us?

As we look ahead, we have a volunteer training day coming up in September and we’d love to welcome some new faces to our amazing team.

Whether you can spare an hour a week, one day a week, or several days, every bit of support makes a real difference to the families we help.

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with Coffee, Chat & Support, please email [email protected] and we’ll send you an application form.

Thank you all for standing by us. Your kindness, messages and support mean more than you’ll ever know. 💙 x
