Yesterday we attended a health fair at Army Air Corps Aviation Centre (AACen) in Middle Wallop. With the AACen conducting training for officers and soldiers in both the aircrew and groundcrew roles, it was a great opportunity to share with trainees and welfare staff the work we do within our Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust funded project.

Thank you to WO2 (QMSI) Nick Curtis for inviting us, and it was good to catch up with Capt Joe Billington and our friends at the South West Army HIVE Hub, Samaritans, and Andrew Johnson from Yes Mortgage Services Ltd.

One in every five men will become a victim of domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime (4.3 million) meaning that 40% of all victims disclosing domestic abuse are male.

That’s why we’ve set aside Weds 4th November for Supporting Male Victims of Domestic Abuse Day, to help signpost male victims and survivors to the support services in their area.

Whether you’re an organisation that provides support for men experiencing domestic abuse, or can signpost towards them, please get involved!

Representing us at the annual Somerset Armed Forces Covenant Partnership Conference yesterday, our Services Associate, Marilyn ManKind, enjoyed some great conversations with fellow agencies serving personnel and veterans.

Aiming to increase the awareness of the help available to armed forces personnel - including those young and old, serving and retired, and their families - the SAFC brings together local authorities, military representatives, public sector organisations, charities and businesses.

It was a privilege to share our work and mission there with others supporting the armed forces community in Somerset.

The Defence Academy delivers world-class professional defence and security education to students from the UK Armed Forces, Civil Service, industry and overseas.

With 42% of domestic abuse victims being male and men in the military often struggling to disclose abuse due to fear of being perceived as weak or vulnerable, it’s a privilege to share our important work here.
