our Chairman Carey Baxter spoke to UTV about mens experience of domestic abuse, and the new Police Service of Northern Ireland Awareness Campaign. This campaign is a result of multiple meetings between Mens Alliance and the PSNI during 2025, during which we highlighted the absence of male victims in their Socials, and the need to engage with men in a meaningful and balanced way.

We would encourage all men to reach out, speak to the Police, if you would like some help in doing that please let us know, we have Legal Support available, and can offer 121 support. Uniquely as a Peer Support Network of men supporting men, we are all highly qualified in this area, because we have all been there too, so really do understand.

You can also join our private online MANi Support Group (NI) where you can speak to other men, and seek help, anonymously.

Today, Sam Morfey, CEO of Both Parents Matter featured on both BBC Breakfast and BBC Panorama, putting the experiences of paying parents and the need for change to the Child Maintenance Service firmly in the national spotlight.

Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long MLA has brilliantly funded a male victim survivors campaign in partnership with Men's Advisory Project (big friends of ours) and Police Service of Northern Ireland

Meanwhile our Government Home Office has point blank refused to do the same. We asked in the summer and they said male victims were not a priority. They make up two in every five victims. Satvir Kaur MP. They refuse to include men in their campaign. We asked. They said no.

It's the norm for defence teams and perpetrators to say it was somehow self-inflicted when a woman kills her male partner with a kitchen knife. We are pleased and jury saw through this lie.

Great news

Representatives of Mens Alliance have been working on our ambition for a Refuge (Safe Accomodation) for men, the first in NI, and today was the culmination of a years work and previous meetings with Minister Long, Minister Nesbitt and Department for Communities.

A round table meeting was arranged for today for us to hear what Ministers would do to solve the problem and lack of refuge.

Unfortunately on the day Minister Long and Lyons did not make it, although Officials from DFC and DOJ, along with Minister Nesbitt did.

Minister Nesbitt listened to our presentation, and also representation from Men's Action Network NI who along with Nexus are assisting us as part of our project steering group.

The Department of Health NI Minister recognised it as a compelling case, and acknowledged it was good to see organisations in the sector working together, as it should always be, for the benefit of the victims of domestic abuse we all represent and support, he also commented "we need to do this"

Minister Nesbitt accepted savings would be made to the Health budget, through early intervention, but that they should be secondary to providing a safe place for men.

We also heard from Officials of the Department of Justice NI and Communities NI.

A number of commitments were made by Minister Nesbitt and we look forward to the outcome of them progressing this project.

We felt it was an overall positive meeting, and undoubtedly male victims and the need for a refuge is recognised.

Ministers, and Departments, just have to find the way now to meet the need.

Keep an eye out for interviews in the media over this next couple of days.

Another step towards Haven for Men, keeping Men and their Children safe after abuse.
