Create Chat Eat is back ✨ - and this week we’re making art! 🎨

Come and get creative - all materials provided, no experience needed.

Fun Fact: From 1912 to 1948, the Olympics gave out gold, silver and bronze medals for art. Painting, sculpture, architecture, music and literature all had their own competitions. The founder of the modern Olympics believed you shouldn’t be able to call yourself a true Olympian unless you could also make something. The event was scrapped because too many of the entrants were professionals - the same rule that used to ban paid athletes from competing. 🥇🖌️

Create Chat Eat is back ✨ and this week we’re doing circus skills! 🎪🤹

Come and have a go, juggling, balancing, plate spinning and more. Pick up from where you left off last time or start completely from scratch under the guidance of our expert instructors.

Did you know that Circus bands had a secret emergency code song. If a fire broke out or something went badly wrong, the band would play “The Stars and Stripes Forever” - a cheerful, upbeat march, as a hidden signal to all staff to start evacuating the crowd without causing a panic. The audience had no idea. It was used for real during a deadly circus fire in 1944. 🎺🔥

No Create Chat Eat session this week - so enjoy a week off and we’ll be back on the 21st May with a circus special 🎪 - expect skills, spectacle, and something you probably haven’t tried before. More details to follow, but save the date.

Fun Fact: Circus skills like juggling have been shown to physically grow your brain — a 2004 Oxford study found that adults who learned to juggle increased grey matter in areas linked to visual motion. When they stopped practising, it shrank back. Your brain literally reshapes itself around what you do with your hands. 🤹🧠

Create Chat Eat returns this week ✨ - and we have an art night to look forward to 🎨 so get ready to be creative!

Fun Fact: Before the 16th century, the colour orange didn’t have a name in English. People simply called it “yellow-red.” It was only after the orange fruit arrived in Europe from Asia that the colour got its own word, named after the fruit, not the other way around. 🍊This means that for centuries, artists were painting with a colour they couldn’t name. Some linguists even suggest this is why Robin Redbreasts are called redbreasts — because at the time, there was no word for what we’d now clearly call orange. 🟠🖌️

🎨

We’ll be getting creative across the evening — come ready to make something and see where it takes you.

Fun Fact: Scientists just proved that the swirling sky in Van Gogh’s The Starry Night perfectly follows the mathematical laws of fluid turbulence — physics that wasn’t even formulated until 52 years after he painted it. He captured it intuitively, while staying in a psychiatric asylum. Van Gogh himself thought the painting was a failure and never sold it. It’s now worth an estimated $1 billion. 🌀🖌️

Create Chat Eat is back ✨- and the new block starts with games night! 🎮

We’ll be pulling out a mix across the evening - old classics you already know and newer ones you probably don’t. Come ready to play and see what’s on the table.

Fun Fact: During World War II, the British secret service hid escape maps, real money and compasses inside Monopoly sets and smuggled them into German prisoner of war camps. So it’s not all just fun and games!

🎨✨ Final session before Easter — and we’re going out with screen printing.

We’ll be creating bold prints using stencils, layering ink and building up clean, graphic designs you can take away. It’s quick, hands-on, and one of the most satisfying ways to turn an idea into something physical.

Screen printing works by pushing ink through a mesh, but blocking parts of it with a stencil — meaning every layer is built deliberately. It’s the same process used for everything from band merch to streetwear brands.

🎨✨ This Thursday we’re back with our Art Night: printmaking edition.

We’ll be getting hands-on with drypoint etching and collagraph, two techniques that let you carve, layer, and press your own designs into bold, textured prints. It’s less about being “good at art” and more about experimenting, making a mess, and seeing what comes out.

🖼️ Drypoint etching creates a soft, fuzzy line called a burr — it’s actually tiny raised fibres of the material catching the ink. That’s why drypoint prints have that distinctive rich, slightly blurred edge you can’t get with normal drawing.

🎤✨ This Thursday we’ll be joined by a guest speaker from Stand Against Violence, a community organisation that works with young people across the UK to talk about issues like bullying, peer pressure, and the real impact violence can have on individuals and communities.

Their sessions are about having honest conversations, sharing experiences, and giving people practical ways to look out for themselves and others. It’s a chance to hear directly from people who work in this field and to ask questions about situations young people face every day.

🧠💬 Bullying behaviour often spreads through social groups when it goes unchallenged — but even one person speaking up or supporting someone else can dramatically reduce how long it continues.
