Transition Tattenhall and TWIG set up a project in the village to have more areas of wildflowers for pollinators and wildlife. TWIG having already developed this in Jubilee Wood.
This has lead to the village being invited by Plantlife an international charity to take part in their annual competition to encourage more people to let their grass grow through the summer, hopefully until all the flowers have set seed later in the year. And now Tattenhall is in a national newspaper!

The No Mow May meeting is tonight- 7-8 Barbour Institute.

Come along and learn about the competition and how to manage your lawn for wildflowers.

Plantlife is an international charity and has selected Tattenhall to be part of this project as we already have a project encouraging people to grow flowers for pollinators in our Mini Meadow project. There are only 3 places in the Uk taking part and little Tattenhall is one of them.

Plantlife’s priorities

Plantlife’s work spans four strategic areas – protect and restore, connect people with nature, work in partnerships and collaborate and influence.

Our mission is to secure a world rich in wild plants and fungi.

Wild plants and fungi underpin the health of our environment. They can help us to resolve the climate, ecological and societal challenges which we face.

Protecting them will lead to a world full of colour, beauty and life while allowing the plants and the animals which depend on them to thrive.

Sso come and learn more and sign up to let your grass grow and find out what comes up and what visits your garden when you stop mowing.

Just a reminder that even the simplest things are worth doing.

What you can do to reduce carbon emissions

There are 4 things you can do to reduce your carbon impact on the world

1. In the home -
Install a heat pump
Switch off lights and appliances when not in use- saves money and energy.
Improve insulation in walls, ceilings and windows - reducing need for energy to heat home.

2.Cut out food waste and cut down on the amount of red meat you eat.
1/4 to 1/3 of greenhouse gases are from the food system.- the production of especially beef , but to a lesser extent lamb uses a lot of energy and produces more carbon, than even chicken and pork.
Save leftovers rather than throw away and use for a later meal if possible

3 Drive and fly less.
International trains are the best ways to travel, an electric car carrying 4 people is better than one with one person- think car sharing.

4. Think before you buy.
Limit your carbon impact by repairing clothes if. possible, buy higher quality clothes that are made to last. Buy second. Hand or rent for those special occasions.
Buy most efficient appliances- like washing machines when yours need to be replaced
