We wish to use this page to show you all what we get up to here at Douneside House gardens throughout the year while we embark on a years training in practical horticulture. We want to be able to share with past, present and potential future trainees the experiences and knowledge that we've gained. For previous trainees we hope for you to share with us where and what you are doing now. To inspire
us present trainees and also show how the Macrobert Trust training scheme helped you get to where you are now. About the Scheme:
The MacRobert Trust Horticultural Training Scheme provides a one-year, full-time practical horticultural training programme for those wishing to pursue a professional career in amenity horticulture. It is directly supported as an internal charitable activity by the MacRobert Trust in support of Horticultural Education and the scheme is well-respected within the heritage and ornamental gardening sector of the horticultural industry. The training positions are salaried and the programme consists of hands-on practical training, work experience and knowledge accumulation. Trainees are taught, mentored, and assessed by our expert training gardeners within the Trust’s extensive gardens; centred at our 17 acre flagship gardens at Douneside and accredited by the Royal Horticultural Society as a RHS ‘Qualifications Approved Centre’. Throughout the year, Trainees also undertake the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture, Certificates of Competence in Chainsaw use and Pesticide application as well as a programme of plant identification, diary and photographic record keeping, in-house assessment and monthly
appraisals. Many applications are received from across the UK, from which four lucky candidates are chosen on an annual basis.
