We have youth groups, 18+ social groups, 1:1 support & family support. Pyramid, formally LGBT Melton & Charnwood is a volunteer run project for those who identify as LGBTQ+ and live in the East Midlands. We provide advice, information and guidance on issues such as sexual health, discrimination, education, employment, relationships and mental health. This idea and development of this project origi
nally came about from listening to the young people of Melton Mowbray who identify as LGBTQ+. We have worked with the young people of Melton Mowbray for 4 years. We have supported a number of young people who have issues and concerns around their sexuality, gender, orientation and any related issues including discrimination, bullying, family issues, relationship breakdown, homelessness and mental health issues. It was bought to our attention that there was no support in the local area for the LGBTQ+ community, specifically young people. We expanded our service to support adult members of the community and in 2019 we started to offer our service in other areas such as Syston, Thurmaston, Mountsorrel, Rutland and Loughborough. We now operate across the East Midlands providing services such as 1:1 support, group work and in school/college support. In 2021 we became part of Leicestershire & Rutland Youth and Family Services. We are now a fully volunteer run project with our staff providing their time on a volunteer basis.
