On Wednesday we had a fantastic day with the buses! 🚍🚍
Get Swindon Moving is a group set up to make public transport better and more accessible in our town. They organised a bus boarding event with Swindon Bus Company and Stagecoach for our Project Boost, and the peer advocacy group Tea and Chat that takes place on Wednesdays at the Swindon hub.
Our groups had a chance to board each bus safely and without the pressure of busy times with other passengers, ask questions, and share their experiences of bus travel. We also were given a chance to sit in the drivers seat, fulfilling lifelong dreams for several of us!
Events like this help build confidence, encourage independence, and working together like this makes services better for everyone.
We would like to thank Rachel, Bryony and Lily at Get Swindon Moving, and Stagecoach and Swindon Bus Company for organising this fun but important day.

Hello everyone!
As National Volunteers Week draws to a close we wanted to take the opportunity to thank all those people who help keep SAM running in the background. Our volunteers provide classes and activities for our Boost members, admin for SAM and crucially, computer assistance for when ours are being confusing!
Did you know, several of our volunteers actually started as Boost members themselves? We are proud of you!
Thank you to everyone who helps us and the people we support achieve all the goals at SAM, you are all amazing humans and we just would not manage without you 🥰

We wanted to say a huge 😍THANK YOU😍 to the team at Swindon Robert Dyas. They have a collecting pot for SAM and in the last couple of months have raised nearly £100!
Also thank you to everyone who pops your spare change in the pot. All the money goes towards helping adults with learning disabilities in Swindon.

‼️‼️Important Announcement‼️‼️
As some of you know, SAM's Boost Project is funded by a department at Swindon Borough Council.
They have let us know that they cannot give us the money to run Project Boost any more after July.

*PLEASE NOTE* Boost will NOT be stopping, but we need to raise money to carry on with it and keep all the classes running.
Boost is a very important enablement project for people with learning disabilities to come to workshops, learning and socialisation tailored to peoples' individual needs, in a safe space. Boost members gain independence and confidence and we are pleased to say we have helped many people with learning disabilities reach their goals.

On Wednesday we held a meeting with Boost members to explain what was happening, and we gave support to help fill in a survey Swindon Borough Council had made, to ask how people feel about Boost, and what other services they access in town.
If you used to come to Boost, even just for a short time, and would like to fill in the survey please contact Caroline or phone the office on 01793 542575 and we can support you to do this.

Being an advocacy charity, we made sure that all the information written on the forms were the individuals own thoughts, and we each checked at the end we had written everything they wanted to say and how they wanted it to be said. People's voices, wishes and views are of the highest importance to us at SAM.

Thank you to everyone who came on Wednesday, and everyone who has contacted us about this. Your kind words have meant a huge deal to us all. 🥰
