In April this year, Swindon Feminist Network held an event called 'Me Too Now What?' which brought together representatives of Wiltshire Police, Swindon Borough Council and Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) to discuss issues around sexual abuse and violence, and looked at what we could be doing together to create change in our local community.
At the event, SFN presented the idea of introducing the 'Ask for Angela' campaign which, originating in Lincolnshire, has been successful in other places. This was received well by the Community Safety Lead at SBC and following the event discussions with Police and Licensing took place to see about implementing it here in Swindon.
We're very pleased to say this scheme is now in place across Wiltshire! We hope this shows the power and influence that community action can have and the value of having a local feminist network. Why not join one of our monthly events and see what more we can achieve together?

Three words which could help keep you from harm: ASK FOR ANGELA...
Available at participating venues throughout the county, the ‘Ask for Angela’ initiative aims to reduce sexual violence and vulnerability by providing customers with a non-descriptive phrase they can use to gain assistance from staff members in order to be separated from the company of someone with whom they feel unsafe due to that person’s actions, words or behaviour. https://goo.gl/BkTN2s
