Swindon Carers Centre

Swindon Carers Centre Swindon Carers Centre is working to create a community where carers are recognised, valued and supported.

We are a local independent charity, and a network partner of The Carers Trust. Registered Charity: 1061116
Registered Company: 3305621 If you look after a friend or family member because of a long term illness or disability, then you are a carer. Some carers might be looking after someone with physical difficulties, requiring assistance with personal hygeine, mobility etc. Many others provide othe

r sorts of care, for example if the person they look after has poor mental health, a learning disability, dementia or issues with substance misuse. Swindon Carers Centre has experience of the different sorts of challenges carers face, depending on their individual circumstances. If you are under 18 and you help to look after someone in your family, you are a young carer. Swindon Carers Centre has a team dedicated to helping young carers, and who can work with the whole family and your school to improve things for you. If you are an adult looking after a child with long term health or disability needs, you are a parent carer. Swindon Carers Centre has a specialist team who are well linked into children's services and are able to assist you in meeting your family's needs.

From all of us at Swindon Carers Centre, we wish you a joyful Christmas and a bright, happy New Year!

We’re incredibly grateful to Zurich Community Trust for their generous support and for recognising the vital role unpaid carers play.

Thank you for helping us make such a meaningful difference!

🎄 On the 13th day of Festive Thanks, we're celebrating Swindon Carers Centre!

Today we’re highlighting the incredible work of Swindon Carers Centre, a charity dedicated to supporting unpaid carers of all ages in Swindon.

They provide emotional and practical support, from 1:1 conversations and benefits advice to respite activities, training, and peer groups. Their mission is simple: to help carers feel recognised, valued, and supported, reducing isolation and improving wellbeing.

Lauren Sharp, Communications and Marketing Manager, shared these lovely words about our partnership:

"Through Zurich’s generous support, Swindon Carers Centre has been able to make a real difference to carers whose cared for are living with dementia. We’ve provided meaningful opportunities for connection, respite, and learning - helping carers to feel less isolated and more supported in their vital role. Our groups included the Dementia Peer Support Group, Open Minds Entertainment Afternoon, Walk & Talk at Lydiard Park, PATH Bereavement & Love and Loss Groups, and training sessions on First Aid, Dementia, Wills, and Power of Attorney.

Beyond group activities, we also provide 1:1 support, welfare and benefits advice, and operate our Support Line. These services combat isolation, improve mental health, and foster meaningful peer connections.

One carer shared, “The brief respite I experienced, with my wife entertained and enjoying the activities, improved her mood for the rest of the day.” Another added, “Being part of a group which understands what you are going through can you give you a lot of support and pull you out of some really dark places. It lovely to chat, have a laugh, and forget for a short while the reason you are there. I am not sure where I would be without a group like this as the companionship, support and new friends is a lovely place to be”.

What wonderful words! Thanks, Swindon Carers Centre, for being such a fabulous charity partner!
