Keep Swindon Tidy / Plastic Free Swindon have regularly regularly litter picked along the Canal Path, including Cambria Bridge, since 2018. We were looking for ways to keep the area clean. Community gardening is a good way to do this, encouraging respect for the environment (see broken window theory...

A leaking air mattress, a sleeping bag with a broken zipper, a tent with a big tear in the fabric. These are really annoying issues that you may not be able to fix yourself. That's exactly why the Repair Café exists: to give these items a second life. Our repairers are very good at fixing things, so don't hesitate to drop by. https://repaircafe.org/en/repairing-camping-equipment/

Very important predictions here to help deciding how to vote in each ward in the Swindon local elections on 7 May. With our infuriatingly broken election system (FPTP only works well for 2 candidates, we need Preference Voting (STV) in local elections - they already have it in Scotland) then if the vote looks close it makes sense to consider who you most don't want as well as who you do and vote for the best of those with a realistic chance. This is the only way to avoid unwanted candidates getting elected on a minority of the vote. Local candidate reputation and campaigning can make a difference to the figures shown: they are based on national polling and demographic data, but are nevertheless a very good indication of the underlying opinion of people in the ward. https://www.pollcheck.co.uk/locals-2026 #/swindon

Greenpeace has a good analysis of party positions here so you can compare parties with a realistic chance in your ward: https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/take-action/project-climate-vote/ranking/election-2026-england/

You can look up the candidates standing in your ward here, though some have revealed very little about themselves on the site: https://whocanivotefor.co.uk/

Note that there are also parish council elections: these can be important for local matters. You can find out which parish you are in here: https://ww6.swindon.gov.uk/parishlookup/parishenquiryform.aspx and the list of parish candidates standing is here: https://www.swindon.gov.uk/info/20073/elections_and_voting/937/forthcoming_elections .

Finally a film that clearly highlights many key aspects of the climate and nature crisis and how things need to change to reduce impacts and build resilience. The Christ Church screening in Old Town on Monday was a start for sharing the message in Swindon - more church and community screenings are needed.
