Yesterday, Swindon came together in solidarity to mark one year since the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam.
Through the soft glow of diyas and the collective Shanti Path, we remembered those who were taken too soon—targeted simply for their faith and identity.
The vigil was a moment of reflection, unity, and quiet strength. We also paid tribute to the courage of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, whose sacrifice of life to defend his countrymen continues to inspire.
A particularly moving highlight was the release of a song written and recorded by UK-born youngsters—an expression of remembrance, resilience, and hope for a more peaceful future. Many attendees also came forward to sign the letter that will be sent to the Government of India, carrying our collective voice and message for the victims’ families.
The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF). TRF is widely assessed by governments and analysts as a proxy or offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based militant group. One year later, we remind the world that justice for the 26 victims is still pending. Pakistan continues to epicentre of terrorism and the UK has strong ties with the Pakistan goverment and has a responsibility that the terorism is curbed before it reaches our doorstep.
Thank you to everyone who joined, supported, and stood together. In remembrance, in unity, and in resolve—we will not forget.
