This week we made the most of the hot weather with a bit of practical work and a bit of downtime.

The Explorers got stuck into building some new benches, which will hopefully stay in one piece! 🤞 Once the tools were away, we finished the evening with some volleyball and a chance to relax in the hot weather. 🥵

Not a bad way to spend an evening!

Last night we got stuck into some mini-pioneering, putting our knots, lashings and teamwork to the test!

The challenge? Build working models using poles and string. We ended up with a catapult which technically worked… although mainly if the aim was to launch the projectile backwards! We also built a crane capable of lifting and moving a bucket of water, with considerably more success.

A great evening of problem-solving, experimenting, laughing at unexpected results, and learning that sometimes engineering is just finding out what doesn’t work first. 👏

This week we got into the spirit of Mocktail Night!

We had a few recipes to follow, but most of us decided to go slightly off-piste and create our own weird and wonderful concoctions instead.

There were some interesting flavour combinations, plenty of creativity, and a lot of laughter… although we’re not entirely sure we managed to win the leaders over with our creations! 🍹😄

We had a great time this weekend with Athena ESU who kindly invited us to join them for a lovely hike in the Brecon Beacons. We lost some shoes, but these boots were made for walking and we rose to the peak of this challenge!!!

Last night our Explorers got hands-on learning some really useful car maintenance skills 🚗🔧

They covered how to change a tyre, what the different fluids under the bonnet are for, and plenty of other practical tips to help them feel more confident around a car.

We also said goodbye to Lily, who turns 18 next week and will be moving on from Explorers. Thank you for being part of the unit, Lily - we’ll miss you, and we wish you all the best for what comes next!

Burn, baby, burn! This week, we were budget baddies and made low-sodium, low-fat meals for under a tenner. We went around the world to Mexico with fajitas, Italy with pizza-pasta, and the ocean with an interesting, watery take on veggie pasta... Awkward! 😬

We laughed and danced around our campfires like an infomercial, but ultimately the best meal was the pineapple - the only thing we liked raw tonight (unlike certain teams' chicken)...... .

Anyways.... Had a delish night, will be back with tuppaware.

Last night we went for a walk around Covingham and Stratton, visiting as many chip shops as we could, sampling there goods to decide on the best chippy around!

This years favourite (for the first time) was Lee Tim Fish bar over in Coleview! Congratulations to them, and we look forward to trying them all again next year!

Big weekend for our Explorers on DofE

Long day walking yesterday, then cooking their own dinner before an early (very cold 🥶) night. Up this morning, breakfast done, camp packed, and just about to head off again.

Bronze qualifier and Silver practice both smashing it!

Yesterday we took on some taskmaster challenges, from making an irresistible proposal, showing our 'powerful pinkies' and making beautiful 'things' (before then destroying them)!

Last night was Jacob’s last night with us before turning 18, and he wanted to run the evening for us!

He organised a game of Mafia, with a few games included. The mafia team won the game, but the explorers won the night!
